A cross between the A.C.L.U. and Nadar's Raiders, an organization that champions the causes of any worthy group or individual, headquartered in Southern California, outside of Los Angeles (with operative branches in a few other US cities, including, New York, DC and Chicago).

Shortly after F.L.A.G.'s creation, Wilton Knight hired an old friend from his O.S.S. days, a man of impeccable moral standards, Devon Miles, to become chairman of the organization. Together, they handpicked the top lawyers of the country to man F.L.A.G.'s legal branch.

While F.L.A.G. was initially very successful, by the late '70s one fact became painfully apparent - FLAG played by one set of rules (honesty, justice), and their adversaries played by another, rules which often included intimidation and murder. Wilton Knight embarked on a two-fold plan to put some brawn behind the brains. The first was his penultimate creation, a virtually indestructible car, called K.A.R.R. (Knight Automated Roving Robot), a prototype for K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Two Thousand). The second, to find a driver for that vehicle. After careful research, one was found - Lt. Michael Long, a detective on the Reno, Nevada police force. Soon to become Michael Knight.
