That's really great. The way the light shines on the body makes it look like metal. Any videos of this in action?

I left the protective bumper on (I'm the kind of R/C driver it was intended for :D ), oh and BTW I just saw both of the vintage Matushiro R/C KITTs on ebay the other day, both the normal one and the SPM one, has anyone noticed that the SPM one has the exact same protective bumper as the Hitari? Weird!

I have also modified my Hitari KITT, I replaced the stupid yellow leds with much brighter white ones, I painted the non-functioning fog lamps white, and added the rear licence plate (though I want to do a better one, at the time I only had a pic of a replica plate that was on ebay, it was not straight and there is a reflection on it.)

The other thing I did was to add in a piece of gloss red card under the red LEDs. It reflects the light and makes the scanner light a bit more visible from above angles. :kitt:

Has anyone modified the Hitari into SPM KITT yet? I'd love to see that.....

i think the hitari KITT is great and i thank them for making such a great product for fans like me, but i am rather unhappy about the front lights and the lack of any lights at the rear, so this project was born, just to complete an otherwise great product.

Very nice job! Now if you can just fix the horrible scanner the car comes with, it would look like the real KITT!

I'm considering about bying a RC car like this. What material are the tires, rubber or plastic - in other words, can the car be driven outdoors (on asphalt) or is it suitable only for indoor use?

I don't have so big of an apartment so potentially the walls could come in real fast, and the not so aesthetic front "bumper" would be necessary. But if the car has hard plastic tires, then traction would be crappy methinks. And would the ground clerance allow it to run on asphalt (wit all the little rocks broomed off first)?

My girlfriend won't let me play with it indoors :D Says that it'll scrape the hard wood floors.

Saw your video on Youtube about wiring the LEDs. Good stuff :good:

Have to go get a solder gun and solder. Man, haven't done that since middle school. Maybe I should buy two KITTs just in case....lol

Got my RC KITT awhile back. Awesome toy !

Oh, and I got also another RC-car - a Shelby Mustang 500 GT Super Snake

Image

During the winter I plan to paint the Mustang and you never guess what color :)

Yeah, will do a KI3T out of it. The Mustang is of 1:18 scale and runs as fast as the RC KITT. I'm thinking of modifying the Mustang with lights as it currently has none. Working scanner would be cool but maybe a little too hard to make.....

I've been thinking about this little dilemma with the front scanner light looking like dren...what about taking some 600 - 1000 grit sandpaper and effectively "frosting" the scanner lens plastic? just a thought, it might diffuse it enough and make it look a little better. Just a thought.

alcyon2sp, Are you planning on making a run of the tail lights for the Hitari KITT? or a how to on it? I would love to mod the back end on my KITT like that :)

Some new mods I did to my KITT. One was the tow bar addition (using parts of an 18 wheeler trailer front support) and "twice pipes" (using the trimmed up side pipes from a 1/18 scale '66 AC Cobra) I also modded my scanner a bit and added 4 white LEDs to the driving lights :) Going to do the KNIGHT plate next. Feedback's welcome :)
