My Dad's keeping him right now, so he's good (moved to the LA area, and he's not really street legal at the moment). Needs a little routine TLC, but nothing major. Going up to visit in a few weeks so I'll get to see him then.
That IROC is awesome!! That model is on my short list of cars I'm wanting to own.

That's me, quit posting here around the time you came in it looks like. Just stopped in to say hi and hopefully have some intelligent conversation about the new show (which is seeming unlikely so I may just say 'later' till the show is picked up).

Convert Third Gen to TPI fuel Injection
dave8412 Jun 16 2006 - 10:35am
Q: What is needed to convert my engine to TPI fuel injection?
A: You'll need to find the following:
TPI intake
TPI plenum and runners
Throttle body
MAF sensor, intake hose, filter case
Injectors (19 lb/hr for 305, 22 lb/hr for a 350)
Oxygen sensor (if your's doesn't already have one)
Knock sensor (if your's doesn't already have one)
Intake air temp sensor (goes in plenum underside)
EGR solenoid
Coolant temperature sensor
Cold start injector sensor
Electronic Control Module(ECM or computer)
Re-route EGR and charcoal cannister ported vacuum as per TPI setup
A/C bracket to TPI intake (upside-down U-shaped bracket)
The best (cheapest) way, is to find the parts through junkyards.

i also might go wif SFI or direct injection or even better a GE T700 turbo shaft for more power and fuel economy (to give my one finger vicory salute to the oil companies ) (and again not until October 26, 2015 or when skynet takes over )

I've owned a CFI 83 T/A and a 4bbl 83 Camaro SC and would definitely recommend getting rid of that CFI. The carb worked well for me and that little 305 Camaro was able to dust the new (at the time) 93 style Mustangs when I had it no problem.
I'm running MPFI now on my replica. Good on gas and power, but since it has an injector for every cylinder it's hard on the old pocket book when a few (or 4 like in '99) foul!

to be honest other than the mushy brakes and a overheating problem (bad thermostat and defective radiator) the crossfire 305 was a great engine. all it is is a engine with dual throttlebodies. i still say you should just leave the daytona 500 car alone as that car is 25 years old (daytona 500 turned 50 this year). i agree you should get a more common firebird with ttops or even a formula as most of them had the TPI engine from the trans ams and a lot of them already had the hood and rear wing and no body cladding. all you would have to do is replace the front fenders rear bumper and tail lights to downgrade it.

If I went with a 4 barrel carburetor what kind of power loss or gain are we talking about here Army F Body?

well i believe the radio that was in most GM cars and trucks were already double din. as far as i know only ford and most imports had the din size radios. i had a ford t bird that i put a pioneer stereo in place of the factory unit and it installed without a aftermarket dash kit. if you were to put an aftermarket stereo into your T/A you will need a dash kit adapter designed for 99 back GM radios and a wire harness adapter that wires into your new radio and the other end plugs into the factory wire harness that plugged into the back of the factory stereo.

I'd say not really much, but you'd get a slight, but noticeable gain with the carb. My CFI was very sluggish off the line compared to my Camaro. Mine just had all the horror story problems you here about with CFI. Another conversion owner in my town swapped out his CFI with the 4bbl and seemed to prefer that setup better, also.
As was mentioned in good working order CFI ain't that bad, carb was just easier to work on and maintain for me (although I've heard plenty of horror stories about the Rochesters, also).

yeah, other than the face plates and the designs of the knobs and some had equalizer adjusters most GM radios are interchangeable from the mid late 70s up to 99 models unless they were a carry over year. well any car that was ALL new for 2000 would have the updated stereos. some cars that were just carry overs would have the older style units. I am looking at a 2004 Grand Am GT coupe and it has the same style radio that was in my mom's 95 Oldsmobile 88 sedan. my dad's 2004 Monte Carlo which was a carryover of the all new 2000 model had the updated stereo that is wired into the cars warning chimes and requires the expensive wire harness adapters.
