Hey everyone,
I just pulled my 1983 talking KITT out of storage and decided to try and revamp it. When I was a kid I submerged KITT in the bathtub and it never talked again. I took it aparts and I am trying to see if I can get it working again. If anyone has any ideas please do tell. The plastic windows are slightly cracked and have come unglued so I have to fix that. Otherwise it really isn't in that bad of a shape considering i was probably 2 years old when I was playing with it.

I've done far worse to my Kenner KITT, Alex T.
I don't know how to repair the voice box ( cause I don't have it anymore), but I'm a little puzzled about the windows being glued in place.
I don't recall breaking any glue to remove the windows. I know the windows were held in place by 2 rather small strips of plastic under KITT's sunroofs, but no glue.

Well first off you will have to disassemble the car itself and the voice modulator may need a new rubberband and the contacts will have to cleaned with a steel brush and then you should pop in a battery and see if it will talk again?...if it works then you are on the right road!

Hey Alex,
I've purchased a broken KITT of of eBay and was able to restore it to work, so I might be able to help you. The most common issue is that the rubber band came off of the motor. But since you submerged it in water, that may not be the case. I would try connecting the motor to a battery and see if that works, if that does we can probably get it going, if it doesn't, you may need to goto Radio Shack or the like and get a replacement motor.
I have some photos of the Kenner Car taken apart for a tutorial I had been working on, I'll try to get that wrapped up, perhaps the images in it can help you.

Neps, can you send me a tutorial as well? My Kenner KITT is not in very good shape, and I'd like to restore it. I'm missing the plastic "rib" for the driveshaft/transaxle (that long skinny plastic piece under KITT) and the voice modulator motor, but most noticably wrong with KITT are holes and cuts I made on KITT's body in an attempt to light him up. I'll show pics if you want (and if I can figure out how to send pics to a reply)
