NBC's COST FOR BUILDING KITT

Post by Keon2005 » Fri Jan 28, 2005 10:20 am

Does anyone know how much it cost NBC/Universal to build the Original KITT for the pilot and the KITTs afterwards, (excluding stunt cars)?

My guess would be somewhere around $60,000 to $ 80,000 by 80's price standards.
I don't need no "Wizard Of Oz Car" putting me behind the 8 ball, for nothing. LOL (The Rev)

All they did was blow away a "Ringmaster", they didn't even steal any hamburgers. LOL (Michael)

From Knight Rider Legacy

There were four KITT cars ,that was $72000 that Universal and the show spent making KITT appear real.

Hasselhoff said: There is about $200000 worth of comuterized gadgets build into it.....

Sorry for my english guys but i still learning.

You know that KITT originally named T.A.T.T. - The Trans Am Two Thousand :)....

There were four different cars built for the fourth season

1)The first car was Convertible (constructed from 1982 model)
2)Second car was dubbed "the Trailer Convertible"
3)Third car was Super Pursuit Mode version built from 1983 model
4)The Fourth car had no engine and was used specifically for transforming KITT into Super Pursuit Mode - this car was used for close-ups.

Universal Studios almost balked at the $250,000 price tag that accompanied the Super Pursuit Mode car .

Convertible KITT is in Keswick at the Cars of the Stars Museum.

Close, you're only $200,000 off. The driveable SPM car cost $250,000. The other SPM car wasn't even mobile because it had no engine, so although I have no idea how much that one cost, I'd imagine it was nowehere near the amount of the driveable one.

So when we subtract the amount that went towards Barris' ego, I wonder how much it REALLY cost to build the SPM car

NBC COST

A thing that I think is worth mentioning is that a Trans am in 1982-1983 with KITT features such as the rims hubcaps, seats, hood cost around 13000 US dollar - 15000 Us dollar.
I don´t know how much a normal worker in the US earned under a year back in 1982-1983 let say a factory worker or something like that.

1998-2002 a trans am fully loaded cost around 30000US dollar.
I know a lucky factory worker could earn as much and more in a year.

So we can all say that NBCs cost to customize these car back in 1982 was as two three trans ams put together
