Updates on my Models...

Post by CB2001 » Sat Apr 26, 2003 10:39 am

Hey guys.

Here's the update on my car model representations of TKR.

As you know, Beast is done.

I am still working on Domino. I'm still considering various things like if I should put the engine together and have it viewable like a normal car model, or if I should put it partically together and glue the hood down so that it cannot open (like Beast).

Also, I have recently purchased a Custom Ford Expedition model for Dante. I am wondering if I should replace the wheels and hubcaps, seeing that the model itself, a snap-together, is constructed as a low rider, and it comes with very wide hubcaps with very small tires. Of course, seeing that it is meant only as a representation of Dante, I may use all the parts as is.

I'm beginning to wonder if the plastic motorcyles I bought a while back are the correct size for Kat and Pluto. I need to make some real world mesurements in order to make sure that they are correct.

Also, I have come to the conclusion about taking the metal 1999 Trans-Am model I have and turning it into a modern KITT (well, on the outside anyways, the interior of the model will be the same). And I STILL have yet to find a store in my area that carries the KITT and KIFT models (I'm an old-school buyer. I would prefer to actually buy the model from a store instead of over the Internet).

Also, I am not sure, but I am considering on purchasing a dremmel tool (which I found one a while back for $25 dollars). Has anyone used these for models? Let me know how useful they are.

Well, that's about all she wrote for now.

i recommend trying to find a snap tite ford f150 truck (if you can find one) for the axels/wheels/tires if the custom one is a low rider, is that the yellow one i thought it had normal wheels, tires just aftermarket/custom style rims instad of the factory ones. if you want a KITT or KIFT let me know my hobby store has 3 of each in stock and they have not sold in fact the owner has 4 more KITTs that somebody ordered out of the catologe but never picked em up email me if you want me to help you out there they are 10.69 with tax im sure i could have em shipped for like 4 bucks at the most ;)

Dave- I'm already using a Snap-Fast Ford F-150 extended cab for Beast. I also have a 1955 Chevy Cameo pickup truck that I am not really working on (nor have plans to work on for the fact that I only bought it because it came in a three model pack, including one 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra model I really wanted). I could borrow the wheels from that one, but then there'd be the problem of the rims for them. Besides, it doesn't matter about how high or low the Expedition is sitting, as long as it is a good representation of Dante, it's alright by me. And yes, the Customized Ford Expedition model is the yellow one.

And for KITT and KIFT, my thing is that I'm an old school shopper. I want to be in the store, pick up the item and buy it. I haven't grown a backbone to ordering items online or by telephone yet. :P But thans for the 411 on the models.

I don't know about hobby stores. However, Michaels, Wal-Mart and Toys R Us are the only stores that I know of that carry models (in Valdosta, which is 23 miles north of my home town, where as Tallahassee is 50 miles west). I'm not sure if any of them do that ordering thing.

Thanks for the info.

I do have a question, but its not about the models. Its about tools for the construction of a model. I found a dremmel rotory tool for $25 dollars that I am thinking about purchasing. I was wondering if such a tool works on metal, seeing that I know that it works on wood and whatnot.

depends on the thickness of the metal, and if it has more than 3 (i recomend paying for one that has 10 speeds) speed setting on the motor and if its corded the battrey powered ones are not as powerfull i used my black and decker Wizard (similar to a dremel and ussed all the dremells attachments) to cut off the roof off a 1/18 scale die cast car and ground down the exess metal of the roof and body it wont be as fast as plastic but it can be done, you may have to replace the cutting disc repeatedly when you do that but dont worry, walmart sells replacement tools/attachements for the dremel in the hardware departement :)

Extremely cool. I think the dremmel tool I found was a plug-in type. I could be wrong (because I didn't buy it, but am considering on purchasing it).

Well, if I purchase the dremmel tool, I have plans in using it to remove the Trans-Am name off the doors, the Pontiac name from the trunk of the car and the firebird symbol off the front bumper of the metal 1999 Pontiac Trans-Am model I told you guys about, if I decide to make it over like a new-age KITT (on the outside).

are you sure the PONTIAC on the back of the car isnt recessed not raised detail if its recessed just put a little putty/body filler in the areas spread it thin over the body let it cure over a day or so then just get some fine grit sandpaper and sand off the excess filler/putty till its smooth as the contour of the body I know for a fact that the TRANS AM lettering on the body is raised deail on the doors so you would need the dremel for that again make sure you get one thats more than 3 speed its worth the extra money to have that more control over the speed of it.

:D

You know, you're right about the PONTIAC on the trunk, it IS a bit "flat". I didn't think about that.

I will most definetly see if the dremmel tool I found is more than a 3 speed first before I decide to go shopping around. :)

Thanks for the help. :D
