The lifted rear end suggests that this car was used as a KARR in KITTvsKARR in the scene when he left the beach.
Perhaps when they went on location to film the Knight of the Drones, they didn't take enough many spare front noses with them and had to improvise a KITT nose from stock TA nose

So they couldn't afford an extra nose and actually finish the job?
Still, TOS beats the crap out of any revamped version of KR. I'm sorry but that's just the way it is...
Michael: Kitt what matters to me is who you are not what you look like. Sure we don't have the car so we can't turbo boost so we can't go over 200 miles an hour but it was all icing on the cake anyway

It's easy to see that this car was lifted up for the quick turns and rolling on sand(4x4 kinda thing) like at KARR returns beach scene.
The nose was also used for a purpose, cause when the car is rolling on sand or making extreme turns the KITT nose can come off or break easily, so they modified the stock TA nose. It's much smaller but they made very similar to the KITT one so I'ts hard to recognise it under a few seconds when it appears on screen...

well it seemed to be a recurring theme this.
in the pilot episode, KITT with the finished bumper is seen as is the unfinished bumper version, yet at the end when the famous voiceover when MK is driving through the desert highway, the KITT is back to the unfinished bumper version of KITT.

there is another one like that in part 2 of "knight of the drones"
It can be seen right before KITT smashes through the garage door at the hunters point electronics building. i'm assuming they used those stock T/A noses with the fog lights when damage to the nose was eminant and they didn't want to destroy the few custom noses they had.

I was looking online for any 1982 Trans Ams that looked like KITT, but the noses were all wrong! You just answered my question. I didn't know the noses were custom. Although on ebay, they had a nose that was identical to those used in Knight Rider. So eaither they made it themselves, or they bought it from someone who did. I really want one for my future Trans Am!!!

If I am destroyed, so shall you be.

IF YOU READ THE BOOK "KNIGHT RIDER LEGACY" , IT mentions that Universal bought alot of Tran Ams and used were them as extra, then after each episode they were destroyed. So thats why we see alot of Unfinished KITTs on some scenes
