Retooling or something planned all along from the begining?

Post by PunkMaister » Thu Jan 29, 2009 9:14 am

After watching the so called retooling (not that I do not like the changes I do) I have to wonder if it was truly a retooling or something that was planned from the very beginning after all! What do you think?

I think it was partially planned from the beginning. David Andron was the one who set up the FBI connection in the pilot. The NSA was brought in afterwars by GST. I think that we would have gotten to where we are faster if Andron had continued doing the series right from the get go. I think the whole government involvement thing was meant to be a preliminary, taken out in the first few eps, but GST carried it further because he wanted to make the show he wanted, and not what Andron was developing.

I voted: "I believe it was partially this way and partially a retooling..."

At ComicCon, Gary told us that he had different stopping points for the series planned out. At 13 episodes incase they weren't picked up, a full season 1 and a full season 2.

I feel that they planned something big to happen for episode 13 that would want us asking for more. But GST has been on record saying that this retooling wasn't completely his idea. So I think both answers have to fit.

Hm.. given this you are probably right still the writers did a good nearly seamless job with this retooling it almost feels as if the whole thing was planned from the begining...

I think I agree with Lynda that if Dave Andron had played a bigger part from the get-go, and GST had been less influential, we would've gotten there faster, with the FBI angle pursued as an introductory element, and resolved earlier on, than we got.
Moreover I think that if Dave had been the one running the show, he would've done more with Carrie, whom he introduced in the pilot, than GST did - as it stands, Carrie's character feels altogether wasted, as the only thing of significance she did was shoot Mike in Ep1 and provide the Valdor clue in the two-parter, not counting her serving as a scapegoat in the Halloween ep. Two or three significant actions for a double-digit episode run = WASTED character.

And that's my two cents.
