It was still a Mustang. Mustangs are garbage.
The real KITT was born a Trans Am.

Again GN_WS6 - personal opinion. Why is a Mustang garbage? Cause of some stupid Ford acronym in the past? It sounds like you were closed minded from the start.

Ok is this ever going to get old the new Mustang is the new KITT get over it.I used to have a 06 Mustang GT and guess what the car was Bad-Ass.i also had a few early 80's t/a's nothing against the Trans Ams but if you compre the 2 the new Mustang is 3 times the car the old T/A's were.
Re: THE MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 KR
You only show us your ignorance by saying that. The GT500KR is a premium American supercar. 550 horsepower is A LOT MORE than most Ferraris have under their hood and, being a Shelby, it's a true collector's item.
It also will cost upwards of 80 grand. GN_WS6, I understand you love the old Trans Am. I do too. I'm fascinated by it. I even bought a 4th gen Camaro Z28 (a distant cousin) because I love it so much. But even a 4th gen Trans Am is outdated now. It doesn't have the allure, the menace, the gravitas a fully-decked GT500KR can bring to the role. As much as we like to fantasize about possible cars -- either supercars or the soon-to-be-common new Camaro, picking a Shelby was a very good idea. Go check out NBC.com and YouTube, you'll see what I mean.
The longer you hold this "grudge", the longer before you can enjoy Knight Rider again.

Re: THE MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 KR
I think it's amazing how many posts are about nothing more than saying the "car sucks!" There were so many other things wrong with the movie and the car was not one of them. In fact the only reason I watched the movie was to see the car. The acting sucked, the story was weak, and the modern *?$# conventionalisations were pathetic. I'll admit it, I love the new mustangs, I own a baby KITT myself a 2005 Black mustang.
Re: THE MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 KR
The Shelby dosn't seem so bad to me. Did better than most Fords.

Re: THE MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 KR
Funny thing. I was on another forum discussing this recently and a lot of people came out with similar statements: that Mustangs were trash cars. So I asked a question that most of these critics seemed to be unable to answer: why?
The funny part was, the people who answered my question intelligently were NOT those who originally bashed the car. They were well informed people who either had a lot of knowledge about cars or they had owned a Mustang themselves. I found I received an equal number of people who were for and against Mustangs as a whole, so like most vehicles, it has its supporters and detractors.
I've been hitting this board a lot lately, and I have yet to see anyone intelligently explain why Fords and Mustangs "suck". I am no car expert, so I rely on the (informed) opinions of others when it comes to such discussions.

Re: THE MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 KR
I am not a "car expert" but I grew up around cars and always loved them. I especially love the classics.
I think many bash ANY Ford because it's a Ford. Car enthusiasts CAN be that way, I've found. Hell, *I'm* that way too! I don't like Chevy no how no way. That's because I owned a Chevy S-10 and the poor thing sucked. I still miss it though, oddly. And I wouldn't mind having a Chevy Celebrity (GM A-Body cars were GREAT in the 80s and early 90s - I have a Pontiac 6000 I LOVE but is going on me and I need another car so I'm looking into used A-Body or similar cars). I learned to drive in a Ford Escort. My dad had a Mercury Zephyr ('79) that I *adored*. Mercury is a Ford product (at least back then it was). I wasn't keen on Fords either but I didn't hate them. I always was a big BIG Pontiac fan since the '77 Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am. But in the recent years I've become disenchanted with Pontiac's offerings, and the GTO's styling was totally sickening (to me).
Now as any car enthusiast knows, it's not just the styling but it's what's under the hood that counts. The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR is no slouch! 500HP? Dayum! That's a lot of HP! But I I don't know any other specifics as I didn't really research things like # cyl., bore/stroke ratio, hybrid specs if any, mpg ratings, crash test results, torque, 0-60, 1/4 mi, transaxle, things that count. I do like the styling and it's very much reminiscent of the classic Mustangs which is a good thing! It's a cool car. It rocks! I always liked them so that is one reason I am into the new KR. It has a car I really love in it!
I would have been just as thrilled with a 3rd Gen or 4th Gen T/A too. But if they must go with Mustang, I'm not complaining.
And Ford won't laugh at you if you want to get a KITT. Heck they are giving one away in a contest!

Re: THE MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 KR
I like it.
My parents had a Mustang when they were first married, back when gas was 27 cents a gallon. Mom always goes misty eyed when she talks about that car, and when I said KITT was going to be a Mustang I saw that look in her eyes again.
I'm a Ford person... um... we have three right now. It gets me bashed in a lot of places but I feel a lot of people don't really THINK on why they're bashing a car company.
I used to hate Chevys but now I think they have the right idea with the systems they've put in their pickup trucks... the towing mode that uses the gears to slow down, and the rear wheels that can turn.
And... believe it or not I used to hate Fords! Before I got comfy calling Linus Linus, he used to be the "POS". (figure that out)
Until this happened:

I drove home, with only a bit of a rub from the seatbelt. The frame wasn't bent. I really would have been hosed if I were in a smaller car. Fords are not plastic, either. That's metal that's all crunched up.
And I'm still driving Linus around today, albeit with a new door and lots of body work. Brand name isn't everything, ya know.

Re: THE MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 KR
Also, what is 550HP mean to KITT? That's probably not the actual reality of KITTs horsepower. KITT in the Original Series didn't match the stock HP - why should todays?
Google Maps says at normal speeds you should be able to get from Standford to Las Vegas in 8 hours and 35 minutes. KITT did it in more than half that time.
This isn't normal HP we are talking about.

Re: THE MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 KR
When you watch the original show, you realize how much time they had to do things w/ the car. That's because they ran 43-44 min each episode and didn't have to worry about an origin story. As the new KR goes into production, they'll be able to go into what makes KITT special.
Less beauty shots and more "wow, how can it do that?" for sure.

Re: THE MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 KR
See, those are the types of responses I find helpful. I went out and read some articles on the Mustang (not just the current one but its legacy as well) and it seems that most people agree the current line is the most true to the spirit of the originals, and I think that's part of what appealed to me about them innately.
That said, neps you make a good point - despite whatever the real life car's capabilities are, KITT is a fantasy car and thus will have whatever abilities the writers choose to give him, so in some ways what the real life car can or cannot do is irrelevant.

This can argued the other way , KITT used to be a Firebird Trans-Am and they were and still are garbage ... NOTGN_WS6 wrote:It was still a Mustang. Mustangs are garbage.
I have been a long time GTA fan but I must admit that this Shelby is absolutely stunning and they could not have picked a finer car than this .. Given budget limitations ..

We get it, you don't like the mustang, you've posted in multiple threads about not liking the mustang. You can not like the mustang all you wish, but stop being a flippin' jerk about it. Enough.GN_WS6 wrote:It was still a Mustang. Mustangs are garbage.
Back on topic, I really think that out of the cars they had to choose from the mustang was their best bet, I'm extremely thankful they didn't go with some Honda. On a personal level, I love the car period and hope to have a mustang in the near future .

No. I work for a PR firm that only deals with video game / high-tech companies. This is just a hobby
I am a huge fan of Knight Rider. I used to watch it in Brazil when I was a kid, around 1987. I've been following the new show like a madman since I heard from it in Dec. 2007.
