Knight replicas, decent vehicle to use in a state like AK?

Post by TheKnightFox » Sun Jul 17, 2005 6:38 pm

I'm just curious, i dont know how much knowledge people have here on cars and four-wheel/all wheel drive vehicles, but if you guys could tell me, in your opinion what sort of vehicle(s) that would do well for the roads in alaska, but i could make a knight replica out of? maybe not KITT, for i might have to do my own creation in this case, but what do you guys think and have in mind about a certain truck, SUV or car that would look good with a scanner and an 'altered' dash board, maybe even AI (system-but i doubt it)---that would look good enough to drive in a wild state like alaska?

As long as it can handle well on most of the roads in alaska, can handle well on ice yet is good looking, and you people know of that particular car, truck or SUV, feel free to drop in your thoughts here; it would certainly be appreciated, becuase i'm not yet that much of a car expert.

I know a truck that was available with digital gauges from factory. And best of all it has 4 Wheel Drive. An late 80's to early 90's midsize S10 Chevy Blazer can work quite well. Make sure you get it with a 4.3 V6 instead of the low powered 2.8 V6. Most of those trucks didnt come with the digital gauges. I have a digital gauge cluster for the truck here. I pulled it out of a Blazer last week.

One of these: Image

Or the full size version: Wasn't available with digital gauges but sure is a hell of a truck!

well, its a good idea but i was honestly thinking of going with something more modern. sorry that i failed to mention it earlier.

i'm not sure how much money ill have and all, but that is definitely something to consider if i come across one of those while i'm searching for used cars or something. 8)

This is hard. Most new trucks are kinda round-ish. It makes it look kinda odd customized. Older trucks are the way to go.

Heres the gauge cluster I was talking about Image

This truck is so cool! I never knew they came with digital gauges!!! My dad had two of these like ten years ago. These trucks would make a gret KR themed ride! I so want one of these with digital gauges!!! 8) 8)

I was thinking about gathering up some friends to go look at the truck. But that plan might fail. :( I can pose as an 18 year old looking for a truck. That would work sweet. :D

I had a 94 GMC Jimmy SLT, which had those gauges in it, that was a nice truck, fully loaded. i'd probably still have it if it hadn't been rear-ended. Personally if I was to do a KR style truck, that would be the way I'd go.... painted black, phantom billet grille painted black, tint the tails with NiteShade, and put a scanner light behind the grille. If you wanted to spend the money you could even put the pontiac turbine wheels on it.

Turbo Cast Wheels wouldn't look right on a Blazer/Jimmy. There is too much wheel well space to fill up! Going with bigger tires woulf make the wheels look so small. I would go with some 18"s with some low profile tires. My neighbor has a nice black 87 Blazer. It reminds me of KARR. My neigbor added silver strips to the lower panels of the truck. I'll take a picture when I have a chance. BTW, did the gauges work on the truck you had? The gauges I have right now, Im not too sure if they work. The truck I pulled them out of had a dead battery at the time. It took forever to get the dash out of the way!!!! Damned thing wouldnt budge!! Then I realized there was some screw to loosen. A big slap behind the head for me!

well, ill be sure to refer back to this page when we start hunting for used cars or for something affordable.

And if i do ever make a knight replica out of a truck like that, ill be sure to show you guys what the finished product looks like :D....but uh...that won't for erm...several years....while i might get the truck sooner, inputting the scanner and fixing up the dash board and such will take erm...a bit longer.

wait a minute...thats a bloody forunner? the 'this truck' picture?

we used to have one a long time ago...would an older toyota four-runner be a good truck to use, in that case?

yeah, to get the truck to run right you would have to go with bigger tires, but my point is they would fit. when my grandfather got his S-10 years ago it came with turbo cast wheels... unfortunately I didn't know what they were and two of them were curbed so I eventually let them go to a junkyard in the trunk of another car. I havea pic somewhere at home of two of them on the back of my old station wagon, I used them for a short period hoping to find a matching set, but then again, I didn't know what they were.

Although it being a 4CYL 22R It has a lot of power! These are my dream SUVs! You have any pics of your old 4RUNNER? I might have a few. I got to check the albums.

unfortunately i dont have any pictures of the forrunner. i can barely even remember what year we sold it, but i was very young when we did.

it was blue. and to say the least we got kind of... tired of it. if i had any pictures i would have posted em but i dont. ill go on the internet to see if i can find one just like it though if you're curious.

i think it looked like this model. i dont remember the year. i think it was a v-8 or something.... :?

It was probably a V6. The 4RUNNER had a V8 introduced in 2003.

Did it look something like this?

it looked very much like the bottom picture of the blue forrunner in the foreground. in fact if i remember things right thats exactly what it looked like except the paint job was a tad different. BUT thats beside the point...

Ya know, come to think of it i think after we got rid of our forrunner we did the same. Our chevy van wasn't near as nice. it doesn't have that extra top or whatever it is and i believe its a slightly older or at the very least a much more simple model.

Later on though we sold the van to our relatives, hence we ended up getting yet another vehicle.

yeah, I felt so sick when I saw a pic of them in an ebay auction a month or so ago and saw the flippin price! I'll see if I can find one of those pix of my bonneville with them on it. I know the junkyard owner personally, if my old cadillac is still there with the wheels in it, I can get them back, but I cant get him on the phone today. also I may be able to get more of them, he's got quite a few f-bodies back there, and quite a few are firebirds.

and I gave myself an idea, I'm looking for another SUV, so... I may just do what I mentioned, down to the wheels, as much as I drive a set of 15" aftermarkets would be ordered anyway since all I go through is oem size tires (I had a set of 20's on my last suv, tires were way too expensive to keep on them), if I went with the 15" turbocast wheels on it then my conversion would look even more authentic LOL stay tuned
