My KITT car was totaled!!! (No not a conversion)

Post by kitt_rulz » Sat Jun 18, 2005 8:26 pm

Its not a conversion (*sigh*) but it was the car i nicknamed KITT. (at least till i bought a conversion.) It was my 2001 ford focus. I did it Monday morning and my insurance called the next day and declared it a total loss  . Now i have to buy a new car which is again a focus except its a 2005. I hit a "J" barrier ( the big concerete highway seperators). Going to fast around a turn. My first crash ever! Lets just say the day wasn't going well. But fortuatly i came out without a scratch but i am currently having my knee checked out. I might have sprained or torn a tendon! Just thought I would inform everyone of my plight!

P.S. if anyone would like to see the slide show i made that has the pics of my old car just let me know and i will email it to you

It's a good thing that no serious injury happened to you, you got off pretty lucky! Cars can easily be replaced, humans cannot. Drive more safely next time. :)

You are SO LUCKY not to be dead or really hurt. We used to have a sign outside of our farm that said something like 'Dangerous Curve Ahead'. Anyway, we had to get rid of it or they would make a new road that wasn't dangerous. So we got rid of it and in one year three people crashed their cars into our tree. We seriouslly thought about taking a J barrier from my dad's work and putting it in front of that poor tree because no car was going through that! Sorry to hear about your car, but you really are lucky!

^ oh yeah and i would love to see the slide show

 Wow! Glad you are ok, for the most part. Hope your knee will be ok too. Accidents are no fun. I was in about 3. One when I was 4 in my dad's car, one when I was around 9 or 10 on a school bus (we went off the road), and one in my pickup truck in 1991 (I had got whiplash and lost time from work, etc.) You never know until a few days after the accident how much you got hurt. Take it easy and DO get checked out! Sorry to hear about "Kitt", too.

That really sucks. That's my greatest fear. If my T/A got totaled out I would probably get a check that would be enough for a video rental and a cup of coffee (Geico can't insure replica parts). If it happened with my Honda I might get something out of it, but I still owe about 7 grand on it.

Really do take care of that knee. I tore all the tendons in my left doing air assault training in the army. Landed with all my weight (200 lbs me, 80 lbs gear) on my left leg. The pressure pushed my knee inward and snapped all the tendons. Didn't have it looked at for 3 months (because I was gonna be a hard charger). Began hemhoraging and I had to have emergency laser surgery to cut out the damaged tissue. No I'm grinding bone on bone in that leg.

My car isn't worth the minimum 15 grand yet for Hagerty. Plus it's like $200 a year for Geico on the Pontiac. I figure that'll get me by till the car is done. It's not a daily driver so I imagine it will be out of harms way.

Only $200 per YEAR? That's not bad. I'm paying a little over $300 per year at GEICO for Dryden. And that's a good rate as I've shopped around elsewhere and most places want quite a lot more, maybe even double. I just got the minimum though, as that's all I can afford. GEICO is really nice though. I've had them since I got Dryden in 2000.

The car's chassis looks twisted. Not worth fixing, but can be good for parts. Good Luck Finding another car though. 8) [/img]

Ouch! That car is pretty mangled. It's just a good thing you didn't get hurt. :) Hope you like your new Focus.

That front tire reminds me of an accident at a problem intersection near here last month I think it was. Someone was turning and someone else didn't stop and slammed into this car. The guy in the hit car just tried to turn into the store parking lot but couldn't go any further because his tire where he got hit got pushed in at an angle and blown. I'm like "he's MOVING that car? How the heck is he gonna do that?!" I was stunned the car even moved at all, even as far as it did. Later they had cops and a truck, etc. there. I don't know if anyone got hurt. It looked bad.

Actually, in some states it's illegal to do that. They have to report whether the car was ever in an accident or not due to what is known around here as "lemon laws" and all that.

When I got Dryden, I did still go check on CarFax to see if he was all legit, which of course he was, no accidents, but CarFax didn't tell me anything I already knew. And, come to find out it WAS broken in to and had the radio literally cut and torn out of the dash. Dash is damaged as a result. I do have to fix that too, as the door to the glove box is now loose again. :?

I think they'll just toss his car in the boneyard and hopefully someone can still get parts from it to save their own car.

kitt_rulez: Enjoy your new car. :) What will you name him/her?
