We have the pleasure of RE-seeing KR every weekend here in South Africa (and the rest of Africa).

We are now moving onto the 2nd season and the other 2 season will follow that.

Here is an article that I found on the channels website (it mentions the new movie, but I think the comments can be taken with a pinch of salt).

The Hoff: Cult Figure or Figure of Fun?

David Hasselhoff will be immortalised for his two most prominent TV personas, the smooth, Michael Knight and the broad-shouldered Mitch Buchannon. But is The Hoff a popular culture icon or simply a slightly tacky TV star we enjoy poking fun at?

The first issue of contention in this debate has to be The Hoff's look. The fact that he made his television debut in 1973 on soapie The Young and The Restless could explain his bent towards the clean-cut model look, but the move to the 80's hairdo (or hair-don't, as the case may be!) is inexplicable. Did someone say blow-dryer?

But the now laughable quiff-mullet The Hoff sports in Knight Rider cannot be sniffed at when viewed in light of the series’ success: since its inception in 1983 the cult show has played out in over 82 countries worldwide. Figure of fun? Perhaps not...

Knight Rider took Hasselhoff to international stardom, but his next television vision, Baywatch, is contentious issue number two. In what is another small-screen wonder, Baywatch also enjoyed unparalleled international success, especially in the decade following its US run.

This venture into serial television (which he played a major role in producing) was not easy for Hasselhoff though: unbelievably Baywatch was cancelled by the NBC after just one season and Hasselhoff had to fight for the rights to the show. When he resurrected it in 1991 however, the beach, babe and bikini-ridden drama reached unparalleled heights.

And The Hoff is not just a legendary television persona: he also has a number of music albums to his name! Granted his home country has taken little notice of his melodic dabblings, but the Germans think he's wunderbaar and he was awarded Most Popular and Best Selling Artist of the Year in that country in 1989. While his musical talents might be debatable, with nine albums under his belt his impact (or at least his stamina) is hard to pooh-pooh.

The Hoff was last seen starring in the hit musical Chicago on London's West End and can be spotted on the set of Knight Rider the movie, which is in production. He has a legion of detractors but many more fans obsessed with the nuances of his thick 'n' curly locks. All things considered, Hasselhoff is a legitimate cult figure- a cultural phenomenon not to be taken at face value. Television, music, theatre, imminent big screen appearances: The Hoff is a force to be reckoned with!

Rights to the Baywatch series have been bought by DreamWorks, but whether the proposed silver screen version will have our hero in the lead role, only time will tell…

I think David hasselhoff's more like an icon, of sorts, than a tacky celeb to be poked fun at.
Even so, I think he loved poking fun at his hugely overexposed 1990s "Baywatch" image in the "Spongebob Squarepants" movie, though....
By the way, I'm in the U.S., folks.....

what i really like about "the hoff": although he is famous and successful, he was never really full of himself. he doesn't take himself too serious, makes jokes and can laugh about himself, which makes him a really nice person. and he cares, for his fans and his series.
