That's true, Kyosho diecasts cost a lot. Perhaps the more expensive Aoshima would consider the full-fabric option. In any case, as long as they get the interior corrected, its all fine with me.

Minichamps and AutoArt are probably just as good as Kyosho but just a little cheaper. In fairness though, there prices are pretty close. That Aston is a 1/12 scale car so its alot bigger than the 1/18 cars. I bought a AutoArt 1/18 Diablo for my bro which has tan carpeting and a fabric-like steering wheel. Usual cost for these is around £40-£45 ($90). I myself have a serious collection of Minichamp F1 cars and AutoArt rally cars and am amazed at the sharpness in detail. I would happily sacrifice some of those ERTL gimmicks (grapple hook, ejector seat) for a more refined looking KITT. Beside, its a model not a kids toy.

i have followed this sight since august 2004, when i bought the corgi, and the corgi was a waste of money. I have already preordered the 1/18 even though the site i ordered it from still says november 2004(i read the posts about the change). Do you all think this 1/18 version will be more accurate than the kenner talking car version of 1982/1983??

Me too - got the 2003 Williams on pre-order. That's due anytime soon too.

Grrr must kill Ralf Schumacher fan  Montoya fan myself....you think they'll make the Brazil-spec FW26? My collection for 1/18 F1 cars stretches back to Damon Hill's 1994 (1993 for 1/43 car) and totals some 14 car (too many on the 1/43). Drumming up some more cash for the McRae signed Citreon and Hill's 1992 Brabham. Go back a few pages and you'll see why my credit card is fainting

kywolverine708, all signs point to this 1/18 KITT being far more accurate than the Kenner car from 1992/83.....especially the dash. I do think though that the exterior on the 1/43 is marginally more accurate. You gotta love the packaging on the Corgi car though, it really looks the business.

I'm not really a fan of Ralf - picked this model up cheap, and it was the only Williams driver they had. I'm also a JPM fan.

Of course, I meant to say I have the 2004 Williams FW26 on pre-order!!!!!! I should think they will end up doing the Brazil spec FW26, much like I expect to see a MP/4-19B McLaren. Maybe not until after the standard editions are released though.

I have a similar number of F1 1/18s, and lots of 1/43s too. Also have several road cars in 1/18 on my shelf - and there's a space where my KITT will go when it arrives. If it arrives on the 17th, there's only 10 days to go! YAY!

The upcoming 1/18 scale KITT will definitely be more accurate than the larger 1/13 scale Kenner KITT of yesteryear. The Kenner has a slight "SD" (super deformed) look, making it look a bit cartoonish. But it does have a Michael Knight doll and it talks...making it a really one of a kind Knight Rider toy/memorabilia.

By the way, welcome to the club kywolverine708!! :D

WOW! That's some car! I wish they'd make a KITT THAT detailed. I'm loving the "leather" seats, too. That's something I'd really like on KITT is fabric seats. Not sure how to get that effect. Paint doesn't reallly do it. I was considering "flocking" them on my model to simulate the soft fabric of KITT.

Actually, i need some advice:

I just bought this off ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 6934157502

....But plan to paint the roof and the stripe going alongside the car a certain colour to totally make it like the Christine car, which should look like this:

http://www.diecast.org/diecast98/html/a ... iewpix.htm

I've never had any experience with this so what would be the best paint to paint with?

I was thinking of spray painting the roof and handpainting the little details like the stripe.

not sure if that's the best route.

any ideas?

thanks.

The roof is the easy part to modify, just buy from your local model hobby shop some modeller's masking tape and a white color Tamiya spray can. Make sure you use the modeller's tape and not an ordinary masking tape, the paint will bleed through it.

As for the stripe, I'm not exactly sure what you mean, Skav. The model in the picture already has the silver badging going across the side of the car.

well thats the motor max plymouth fury and its not supposed to be red, i have one of the unassembled versions of that car to convert mine into a christine befeor i found out about the ertl version. Sombody obviously had the kit, painted the body red and assembled it. ALL 58 fury's where light tan with gold side trim and grills. with dark brown/tan interior. Christine was a 58 Belvedere (a lower trim level of plymouth in 58.) which came in red and other colors. as for making yours more like christine the side trim on christine is dull silver with chrome surrounding it. as well as the grill. PM me or email you and ill tell ya anything you need to make yours an acccurate model ill even supply you with these ;)

Image as well as the color youll need to paint the interior etc

HondaSir, that's what I meant, the trim down the side of the car....it's a yellow or gold colour...haven't received it yet but it's either one of those two colours.

The one on Christine is a Chrome, like Dave Knight said.

Dave, I'll PM you.

corlando52 wrote:OK, I agree with Dan on this. I never liked SPM KITT. I thought it was really reaching for the kids market. KITT always seemed with the realm of possiblity for me. SPM doesn't. But then again, I didn't like when they changed the voicebox on KITT from the flashing red box to the 3 line, LED version, because I thought he looked too much like KARR. But then it grew on me and I much prefer the 3 line voicebox now. BUT, I don't like the one screen dash. So, to summarize, I like Season 2 KITT, and that's it.
But, that's just me...

Chris

Yes, I LOVE my Bonnie, but my favorite KITT has to be Season 2.

Oh, so you want the stock yellow or gold colored trim to become chrome? Hmmm, Dave Knight can probably be of better help than me then, I haven't tried to replicate a chrome trim on a model yet. It would seem that the easiest way go is to color it with silver paint but that would still not look real by our standards. Share with us the details if you guys know of better ways, ok?

well depending on the the model most gold trim on a diecast is just transparent yellow paint over the chrome plating, usually a q tio or other cotten swab dipped in rubbing alcohol or testors brush cleaner anything other than THINNER or turpentine. as far as christine is concerned the side trim is actually silver or an aluminum/stainless steel color in the middle, and only the outer edges are chrome ;)

the model i bought already has the outer edges in chrome so all i gotta do is concentrate in the middle.

watched the film, it is a grey in the trim, like steel. but a really light grey.

So you're pretty much in luck! The easiest way to deal with the trim is to leave the chrome as it is and paint the middle portion light grey with a fine modeller's paint brush.

the trim is NOT grey its more like a satin silver like a dull allumium color it only looks grey, i have about 20 pics of one of the 'hero' cars from a car show and if you want em let me know skav. Ill PM you later on. you will aslo need to remove the gold from the center of the hubcaps as well ;)

Getting back to KITT...

GPL in the UK have the KITT model as one of their "best sellers" on their website. I emailed them to find out if it was in stock, but they said it isn't - they're expecting to take delivery "towards the end of this month".

Could be just a week tomorrow that I get mine if it's on time! :D :D :D
