Do you like the look of the Super Pursuit Mode KITT?

Post by PBH » Fri Nov 05, 2004 12:03 pm

This came up while in the thread 1/18 Die Cast KITT Coming In December. Are SPM lovers really a rare breed? I myself am a fan.

While I have said before on a thread that it looked somewhat awkward, overall I would have to say yes, I do like it. And like I've also said before, I especially like it during the few times it was used at night when every extension was underlit with red lights. K.I.T.T. looked awesome then...too bad he didn't use SPM at night more often.

After 3 years of the same basic kitt maybe a difference in a lower nose, you kind of get sick of it so something more retro is welcome.

I thought it was cool.

I didn't get to catch a lot of the season 4 episodes till syndication in the late 80s so I remeber running home from school and hoping the LA channel that ran it would show a season 4 episode to see SPM (for some reason they were ran out or order. One day could be Ring of Fire, next Deadly Knightshade).

I still think it's cool today, but agree witht the concensus that it was overused. Maybe if they made more stock fotage and definately more night shots like Lost Knight said. It gets repetative quickly when they show that same stock footage then only use it for 30 seconds and that's it for the whole episode. Half of the time it was never neccessary.
KITT project is on again!

Currently working on: brand new stock tan interior, almost done!

I agree with you, Army_F_Body, on the overuse of SPM. I think after "Knight Of the Juggernaut," the idea was to have its use be the climax of most episodes which is why it was used so often.

I can see people's views on the stock footage, it defo got repititive after a short while when seeing the same thing over again, I wish they did more with it.

However, in SPM's defense, the whole idea was for KITT to go even faster than in normal Pursuit, so how ppl can say the SPM mode itself was overused doesn't make sense. KITT when in normal pursuit at least once in every episode before SPM came along.

If you can take the faster option, you are gonna go for it.

It's just that damn stock footage......

Looks light budget cuts. Notice there were no more (or extremely few) turbo boosts after Knight Of the Juggernaut. Instead of tossing cars over ramps & destroying them ($$$), why not just keep re-airing the same "transformation" footage & drive in the other car?

I liked the SPM feature, it made KITT look as if he meant business...and when the extra speed was needed, SPM delivered. I also like the convertible idea, it gave KITT a touch of class as an automobile.

yeah loved the spm, except a few things, didn't like the air brakes shape, nose was gud, didn't like the bulky back,so called turbo boosters didn't even throw fire or smoke to show SPEED effect.during spm,KITT tyres shud get instanteneously thick, wich do not, suspension shud get lowered wich doesn't

Those last suggestions could go into the What feature would you like to see in the NEW KITT? topic.. Which reminds me.. I need to bring that topic back to life..

They shold do a Centurions bit- leave out the step-by-step transformation at times- you don't see the Power XTreme scene in full all the time, do you?

There was no SPM sequence in "The Scent Of Roses." Unless of course it was syndicut.

There was an SPM in SOR but it went from Michael pressing the button to skipping the pop out sequence to the car just zooming along.

That's sci fi for ya.

That's what I mean as in the sequence of extensions popping out; it goes from normal mode to SPM.

I took one look at that picture and thought "ew."
Then I burst out laughing.

KITT is a sharp looking car...why mess with perfection?

During the fourth season, the producers were trying to find a way to boost the show's ratings. That's where SPM came along. Unfortunately it wasn't good enough and the series ended after a four season run.

I'm sure another big factor was that it was a lot cheaper than throwing cars off ramps.

I hated it! KITT looked like he was a frightened porcupine! For one thing, it would adversely affect the smooth airflow over KITT's frame. :x
