The reason that Hasselhoff's voice was given to the actor who played Michael Long in the pilot was because (in the context of the storyline) although Michael long's face gets destroyed when Tanya shoots him in the desert, his voice isn't affected and therefore the voice he has as Michael Knight would be the same voice he had as Michael Long. Just because Michael Long has plastic surgery to reconstruct his face, he doesn't have any other surgery (except maybe fingerprint alterations) that alters his body in any other way. So, everything except his face and fingerprints stay the same. Hence, in order to amke the pilot episode more believable, Michael's character has to have the same voice whether he's Michael Long or Michael Knight.
"One man can make a difference. You can make a difference in someone else's life. You can make a difference in your own life." -- David Hasselhoff

the reason why hasselhoff plays Long in the scene where he gets shot is cos they couldn't afford L. Anderson anymore.

That could be it....but even if they could afford it, they had no reason to keep him at that point because it was dark, dark enough to not really see his face (or at least for it to matter to the casual viewer). Of course, they could have also set the scene up that way as a consequence of not being able to use Larry Anderson...Only they know for sure (or not actually, judging by their poor memory in the commentary)

well, hasselhoff was the one that said about them not being able to afford Anderson in that scene...so that's where my knowledge of it is based.

I know that when people make tv shows or even commercials that they pay on what exactly takes place. If a very famous actor apperas he gets a small paycheck but if he speaks he gets a slightly bigger paycheck.I'm guessing its because that Michael Knight and Long are supposed to have the same voice rather then the paycheck in this case.

While the reasons above are correct, I always liked that nit-pick. It's obviously Hasselhoff playing Michael Long in shadow, but it kind of works as a neat little transitional moment: Michael Long about to become Michael Knight!
Very artistic!

[DON'T SHOUT!] "There is no need for increased volume. I am scanning your interrogatives quite satisfactorily" [/DON'T SHOUT!]ALL GOOD ANSWERS BUT WHY DOES HE ONLY HAVE HIS VOICE IN THE CAR SCENE THE OTHER SHOTS IS L ANDERSONS OWN VOICE
It's *definitely* Hasselhoff dubbing every line from the start.
Also, try listening to that part of the commentary where he says they "couldn't afford" Mr Anderson anymore for that scene in the desert with your sense of humor circuits engaged. The big H is clearly being self-deprecating.
The bit in the desert was shot as part of the presentation (with Hasselhoff) then they went back and shot the casino part with Larry Anderson as Michael Long when the pilot was comissioned. It's all on the commentary, I think.

Yeah, I was kind of cringing at some points during the commentary because while it was really funny, I had a feeling that because of their dry style, people were going to get confused about what was real and what was a joke. I would agree with you, that the bit about not being able to afford Larry was just a running joke.David wrote:

As long as Larson isn't paired with David again...you could sense the blood boiling between the two, especially on Larson's part...how he hated it whenever David ended up telling us a "trade secret" about the show...funny, i thought that's what commentaries can be for.

Guys...most of the heat between the two was mock tension for amusement and nostalgic sakes....who knows what relationship they shared and how long it had been since they last saw each other? They were both dry and sarcastic and probably making a good amount of in-jokes that only they know about. The trade secrets thing tho, I can assure you Glen Larson was not being serious, and thats part of the joke for acting so serious that 20-yr old well-worn tricks on a long defunct series would become public, though all of them probably already are. I will admit tho, they both have a strange sense of humor.

When I started listening to the commentary, I noticed the same thing.. thought Larson hated Hasselhoff and that he couldn't wait to get out of the room. But if you really listen to it, and hear the way Hasselhoff responds to it, the relationship seems much more sarcastic based. I have a lot of close friends that there are times we act like that, but you can sense the friendship and the appreciation for each other.
I think it was possibly in another thread that someone mentioned the fact that they constantly pause or coment on an actor being great. I got the feeling, and I believe it was said, that they hadn't seen the pilot in a long time, and the pauses are just them enjoying it, which I thought was also great. Sure, I would have loved more dialog and discussions. Perhaps they should have ran them through the pilot twice, recording both times, so they could be quicker on their feet the second time around.
