This may be a really stupid topic, but I'm too quizzical to care right now
What if KITT were to hit, like, a deer or a bunny on the road? I know he'd be able to spot it and stop or turbo boost or whatever but... hypothetically, what if he didn't see and just BAM! ran the poor thing over? How do you think he'd react?
Again, sorry if this is stupid, but I figured nothing could be worse than that "What If Knight Rider was a drug related comedy?" one... but even that led to some funny conversation... anyways, yeah.

It's not a stupid topic at all...
KITT's basic programming is to protect human life, but does that extend to non-human life as well?
In Knight Rider 2000, KIFT was more than willing to run over a deer, since he would have sustained no damage from hitting it. Devon then says that KIFT "lacks KITT's humanity". So I think that Devon believed KITT would regret (for want of a better word) hitting an animal.

Thanks for the reply, I haven't seen Knight Rider 2000 (yet) so I didn't know it was actually an issue at one point. So KITT would feel bad. Aw

Poor KITT.

It is a hard question to answer. After all, computer logic is so black & white. I mean, how does KITT handle killing a dumb insect that flies in the way?

I'm not sure I would say computer logic is black and white. At its most basic level, I agree that KITT is just a system of ones and zeroes. But we could also say that a neuron firing in a human brain is also very black and white. But when you put millions and billions of neurons or computer bits together, you get a remarkably complicated system that can't be easily predicted.

lol! i wasn't trying to insult you, it's just that thinking of something that's so innocent to me as a drug comedy is almost painful! lol if I did offend, I'm sorry, and I wasn't honestly trying to disrespect
A basic computer program is very black and white but as Michael Pajaro stated with all his smart-talk (

), KITT's is just as complex as a human's mind, if not more, since he still has basic prgramming with the addition of a personality and sometimes even emotions (or so it seems *Shifty eyes* )
I'd hope KITT didn't care when flies or other bugs hit him, lol, poor thing would be traumatized by now!

This is an interesting question. My guess is that given Kitt's personality, it seems like he would be sensitive and feel badly about hitting an animal. I could just hear him - "Michael, I feel just awful...that poor creature..." It appears as though he was sensitive toward animals, even if they proved irritating.
There was an ep where a dog was sniffing his tires, but Kitt wasn't hostile, even though the end result was not good for Kitt.
In another ep he soothed a tiger by playing classical music and saying "now there's a nice kitty" lol.
Insects - ew. yuk. Lower life form. Since Kitt was fussy about his appearance, my guess is that he would be pretty disgusted with wearing them after they met their demise upon his person, and would plot the shortest course to the nearest car wash. As soon as possible.

KITT operates on fuzzy logic; that is, he only thinks about animals which are fuzzy, such as deer and rabbits. Bugs do not compute.

What a great question. In my opinion if KITT actually hit an animal of any kind the poor animal would most certainly be toast. Considering the speed at witch KITT can travel and the low angular front end the probable out come for a deer would be severed legs. If the poor thing hit the car I imagine it would look much like what happens when a deer is hit by a semi. No damage to the truck and the deer is completely unrealizable as what it used to be. I agree with Excalibur about KITTS verbal response. Hey Turbomanknight don't get so upset I thought your what if was hysterical.

LOL. Most people do too -- unless the fuzzy thing is a rat.
But yeah, I think that Kitt would be a little bit upset with himself if he hit an animal. For all his distain for animals throughout the course of the show, he used humane methods for getting them to move along.

If Kitt was to run over a animal Michael can have himself a good old fashioned barbeque. He can open up few beers and kick it with the crew.

lol... that depends on the animal, TurbomanKnight... 'least, I hope it does :S lol
If I were to run over a rat I'd feel more disgusted than guilty, but I'd still feel guilty!
