Story ideas for a season 2

Post by Garthe Knight » Sat Jan 31, 2009 6:22 am

With ratings going up and the show going into the right direction my hopes for a season 2 are also rising.

Well I am a fan and so I guess I know what we want to see on the show. I am also a creative person and last (k)night when I couldn't sleep I thought of stories that I would love to be told on the show on season 2.

I am no writer, I don't have everything to write a full script. But I really want to get my ideas to the people on the show. Any idea how to achieve this? Whom could I send my ideas?

I would post my story ideas here or make fan-fics of them to get some feedback here, but this would be the best way that the stories are never adopted for TV.

Okay, not to piss on your plant, but if you try to send them something, they cannot and will not use it much less read anything beyond the first paragraph if it starts to resemble a story pitch since you have no agent. The legalities of the entertainment world prevent them from doing so to avoid potential lawsuits. Even if you put in big bright colors that you claim no ownership to the ideas, they still won't do it. What you can do is send them a general letter saying something like "I want to see this or that in the show and bring back the Hoff if you have to kidnap him!" but you cannot send them anything that looks like a story outline. If they do an open solicitation of ideas from fans, which isn't likely, then you can send them whatever ideas you think are good. Paramount went through a long period of time where fans were constantly mailing them so many unsolicited scripts and story ideas (literally hundreds per month) for Star Trek TNG, Voyager, and DS9 that they actually did open up the doorway for a brief time through the Star Trek website for fans to give their input on which direction things should go with the future of Trek TV and Movies and what they would like to see. Ultimately, nobody but Paramount knows what came of that small effort but given the direction things went in, I am guessing they didn't make much of whatever was submitted.

1) Get an agent.
2) Have the agent arrange a meeting b/w you and the KR producers.
3) Pitch your ideas to them.
4) If all goes well, you will be hired on the KR writing staff.

I'm with Lexicon and Mr Marcus here.
The only way your idea's can truly count is if you are a member of the WGA (Writers Guild of America).
Fans really do have no say in the matter when it comes to publicized visual material. Everything must be contracted and legalized, and although we fans think we can make a difference, we cant, because we're not the big wigs...
"Michael, I agree with your earlier assessment, back-up plans suck."- KI3T
Put the word out!
WATCH THE SHOW!!!: Wed at 8:00pm on NBC.
Its getting better and gaining ratings, AWESOME!!

If you have a great story idea for Knight Rider and wish to one day become a writer. Then I recommend using that energy and passion and write it up as a spec script.

After your script is perfected send out a query letter to agents that outlines your credentials and describes your work. If they are interested they will ask for a sample of your writing and you can send them your script.

- I do believe you have to have worked as a writer before joining the guild, but their website might still have some helpful resources.

Thanks for your answers. So I guess I have to start to learn how to write scripts instead of short novels. :)

Matt Weiner's spec script for Mad Men is what impressed David Chase enough to hire him on as a writer for the Sopranos. After Sopranos ended he was able to get his spec script made into a show on AMC. Mad Men has won numerous awards and Weiner just signed a 7 figure deal a couple of weeks ago. If you are really interested in pursuing this just do what Sue recommends. You never know what could happen and you have nothing to lose.
