hello all:
i joined this site years ago but haven't really spent much time on here. i saw the new movie and episode 1, but missed episode 2 (i miss-recorded because it was on at 9pm last week and 8pm this week) but hope to catch up this weekend. i really enjoyed the pilot, especially where you see bits and pieces of the original car in the garage and then the excitement of the new kitt saving sarah in the middle of the university grounds.
i was only 2 years old when the original show came out but knight rider 2000 was always a favorite of mine. i heard a rumor that a few more episodes were filmed and i hope those in power make them available on dvd some day. i know the original cast is getting on in years, but if this is truly a continuation of the story and not a completely independent show (hard to do now that hasselhoff has reprised his role in the pilot) they need to make some connections to make us nostalgic people happy and help give the new show more substance and a sense of history.
in future episodes they need to establish what has happened to the knight foundation, flag and the our old friends from the original. a few guest appearances would be much appreciated. obviously devon will have to get a quick memorial mention and perhaps bonny or april can show up and lend a hand. it certainly worked reintroducing classic characters on the new doctor who. the best part would be if they could find a way to ressurect the original kitt. he will need to have vital role and not take backstage to the new car and of course he will have to have his voice back....even if the producers have to wheel william daniels in on a stetcher!
additionally the new car needs some work. i am growing used to the voice, but it lacks the substance that the original kitt had from the beginning. there is no depth, no personality. the original kitt was just a voice, but you felt like it was a person because daniels had the ability to convey emotion whilst still playing the part of a computer it's something that was heartwarming when the much more sophisticated / less cheeky action flick knight rider 2000 aired in 91. val kilmer needs to develop that same ability if his character is to mature through the coming years.
the truck transformation is a little far fetched and something only a transformer should be able to do....the physics just aren't there at our present state of technology. it is neat though. i dislike the series attack mode because it is too gaudy looking and sudden changes damage the show's continuity. the knight rider is supposed to be sleek and sophisticated and all about stealth and speed. the drag racer approach with a blower sticking out of the hood and big shiny solid wheels does away with that. i believe there needs to be a little less of the fast and the furious influence. kitt is more a supercar than a rice burner. as for the nano-tech skin - thats something i haven't seen in 15 years since viper (another good car action show) was on. the idea that the car can make subtle changes in color and styling goes a long way towards maintaining the stealth and sophistication needed for missions.
i think there is potential and understand that people are still falling into their roles.
what i want to see in future episodes

Re: what i want to see in future episodes
oh yeah
the two biggest dissapointments for me about the new show were the car and the voice
don't get me wrong, the new retro mustang is a nice car, but it just isn't as low, long and sleek as that old trans am. it doesn't suprise me that ford wanted to muscle in and take the wind out of gm's sails with this new show. in fact, the dialog in the pilot movie really spelled it out: that the mustang was a better choice than a firebird....yeah whatever the pontiac bashee concept car in knight rider 2000 was more in keeping with what kitt should be. unfortunately the firebird is no longer produced and transformers already made the new camaro popular. the gto only went off the airwaves (for the second time) a couple years ago and that could have been a nice follow up vehicle. the corvette would be sleeker, but it doesn't have a back seat...darn!
an even bigger freak out moment came when i realized it wasn't daniels' voice because his voice is the character (despite many oppositions over the years). it was a relief when i found out the new kitt is a different character and that the baton has been passed.

To me it seems pretty obvious that a lot of ideas have been taken from the Viper show.. in fact one could so so far as to say that this new Knight Rider is more a continuation of Viper than of Knight Rider in many respects.capev86 wrote:thats something i haven't seen in 15 years since viper (another good car action show) was on. the idea that the car can make subtle changes in color and styling goes a long way towards maintaining the stealth and sophistication needed for missions.
I'd be happy to see a decent hi-tech dash board and "attack Mode" reduced to SPM with Kitt having all his other functions all the time.

Loose the Transforming into other vehicles, mode. It looks bad. I like the rest though.
LOYAL Knight Rider fan since 1995
