quoted from a friend at nfscars.net check it out wannabegeorge..tips for better lighting
beautiful render, what program? btw are you using an auxilary plane? an Auxilary plane is basically whats going on in this image I made a while back:
http://www.deviantart.com/view/29929214/
though im pretty sure we are using different programs, so you would have to go about it differently. Some brighter lighting on the front might make it look more alive. giving it some specular elements ont he right side of the front bumper is what im referring to, anyway keep it up, its looking gorgeous.
i hope this helps wannabegeorge...

Question: Why do you, who stand to make no profit other than personal satisfaction, are able (or, more appropriately, care) to make a model that is (even unfinished) miles above Davilex's, when they stood to make money.
Michael: "KITT! Where are ya?!"
K.I.T.T.: "I'm in your parking space, Michael, where else would I be?"

what program are you using anyway? maybe a mixture of hard(raytraced) and soft shadows could give it a more pleasent feel as well as removing that plain blue/cyan color sky/background, and either making it a black or possibly just making it have a plain one color backdrop that seamlessly connects the sky and floor together.
Basically what I have here: specular highlights are in there as well, like look at the rim of the camera hole beginnings.

no cuz they blew it with the second game...they also ignored every suggestion we gave them to make the game and the car better than in the first game.

I don't have the energy to reply to everyone tonight (I know - I'm a lazy ass). But rest assured, I've read and will at the very least consider your input. Thanks for the replies
Headlights!:
they look square, but they're not (could be rounder still, methinks):
I'm not sure if I have them far enough from the center, apart from one another, etc. I'll have to go back to the DVDs for reference. Oh and just in case anyone was wondering, I consider KARR from "KITT vs. KARR" to be the most official S1-2 build of the design.

Just like to say this model is the best I have seen. Have you thought about apply for a job as a computer-modeller? I'm sure companies like Pixar (to name but one!) could use your talents. Sorry if I missed it in the thread, but what program are you using?

Yes, what program are you using?
Michael: Kitt what matters to me is who you are not what you look like. Sure we don't have the car so we can't turbo boost so we can't go over 200 miles an hour but it was all icing on the cake anyway

I've not had a job yet, but hope to someday *dreams*
Sorry - I keep forgetting to mention - I'm working in 3d Studio Max. Probably should learn Maya, but that's for the next project.

I don't know why but that second pic of kitt in black and white seems like it should be in a pantheon museum under best kitt statue ever made.

Thanks KR
As far as the diagrams go, I've had several requests elsewhere, so here you are:
I should note they're not perfectly accurate and you'll have to tweak your model a lot to make it look good. I won't get into the details, but use LOTS of reference. Good luck would-be KITT modellers!

Update - hooray
Still not happy with the lighting/setting (haven't messed with it yet), but I have accomplished quite a bit. Notice - headlights (now I'm happy with them), new scanner setup (not 100% satisfied, but it's close), indicator lights, and I've put a block under the car so light doesn't pass through it.

Hi wannabegeorge,
I have a question for you.. What can you do with the model when you finish it? Are you able to use the model in a wide range of different applications??
The only reason i ask is that it would be wonderful to have such a highly detailed render as a full screen animated "screen saver".. For example, have KITT rotating on a small platform with the scanner going back and forth, with options to turn the lights on and off, stop spinning the car, zoom, etc etc.. It's just a suggestion and it is cool..
I"m envious that i don't have the patience for something like this, your KITT rendering and model work is absolutely amazing and outstanding! Well done! *big slap on the back*
Regards
Adam

Do you ever excitedly post something and later realize how crappy it looks? Yeah, that's definitely the case here. No more bad lighting! It takes SO much away from the model. I experimented this morning and think I've come up with something that I like. I had to tweak the crap out of the materials, but it was actually for the best. It made the car paint texture easier to modify for KITT's evil two-tone twin KARR (COMING SOON)
Anyway, lemme know what you think.

You knew it was only a matter of time. CGI KARR:
It's hard to get the right shade of amber on his scanner. Obviously, these models aren't completely finished, but they're getting danged close.
Still to be done:
-trunk 'bubbles'
-black bits (around the edges) in the windshield and rear window
-T-top bits at the sides
-fix the license plates
I think that's it.
