As for why they've done those mistakes, I don't know for sure but I believe it's partly because they haven't done good enough research and what I think is the main reason in many cases, too tight budget & schedule. They've done what they can with the given budget & time.
I think in today's world virtually everything is technologically possible to make 100% perfect but the money is the thing that many times ruins it, it's "too expensive" to make perfect products so the companys don't even try to do them perfect or sometimes even close, they just do what's most profitable for them and let the customers suffer from it.
I'm interested too collecting some 1:18 cars from the 1970's and 1980's to display & photograph with KITT model and creating Knight Rider diorama's with them. There's just not too many model's available from that time period.
