Lower and upper consoles

Post by HungarianKnight » Fri Mar 03, 2006 4:43 pm

Howdy. I was just watching Mouth of the Snake and noticed that Kitt had a different lower console than he had in the first season. It has more larger buttons and a numerical keypad. The upper (overhead) console also changed during Season 2, it was made less protruding than the original one, without "bar" displays yet with more switches on the left side, similar to the Season 3-4 overhead console. Were these consoles changed in Goliath, the season opener? If you know it or have theories, please tell it!

My guess is just a change for the new season.

Although I can imagine that larger overhead was
in the way alot. The flatter version made for more head room.

After all, The Hoff was a tall dude!

What amazes me that with the exception of the Pilot Epsiode,
The lower console is NEVER used in the rest of the series. Just
a few glimpses of it here and there.

The later seasons, you only got a view of one when the tape was
popped into the player. :?

The lower console was used for retrieving data, as I can recall. We can see Michael push some of those buttons for example putting video files or images on Kitt's monitor(s). For example, he pushed the big lower console buttons in Mouth of the Snake to download O'Brien's data files about those top-secret weapons. But why dod they change that console in Goliath? The original one was more "mature" than the season 2 one, that one looks like it has been designed in a hurry...

Michael pressed the lower console buttons also in episode Forget Me Not when they chased the bad guys who kidnapped Micki.
I always thought the autodoor buttons were located in the centerconsole but I guess those buttons didn't really even exist on KITT's dash, upper console or lowerconsole  Not to mention the SPM buttons.

I've seen changes like that too. Watch "lost knight", at the very end of the episode after michael says goodbye to doug and his mom and gets inside kitt, the dash is the OLD one.
