The Knight Rider community is filled with people making a difference, and this is no different. David Doggett is a great fan who works very hard to help keep the spirit of Knight Rider alive, as well as doing some great charity along the way. This time he's produced a Knight Rider calendar!

This two year (2010-2011) calendar contains some very rare photography. Craig Leary who did the driving for KITT in the intros has allowed some of his personal photography from that shooting to be used. And David himself included some of his photos from time spent on "Kickin It Old Skool" the 2007 movie where David Hasselhoff and KITT appeared.

Partial proceeds from the sale of this calendar will goto the Children's Miracle Network.

FLAG Mobile Unit and KITT minatures; amazingly rare & screen used

An wonderful piece of history was shared by Ave4uevoli who posted in our forum. He's recently aquired FLAG Mobile Unit and KITT that was used in the original series. He says:

Well here it is - I thought you all would like to see and to know where it is now. It's still alive and well.
Below there are also pictures of a screenused miniature - the one that has a working scanner. I believe it's the only one made with a working scanner too. Jack never finished it. If you look at the picture where Jack is holding one miniature - the one I have is the one on his table. It still doesn't have side mirrors.

The trailer is a whopping 7-8 feet long. Altogether with the truck it comes out to nearly 10 feet long. It's constructed of metal, wood and resin parts. It's been sitting in a crate for the last few years untouched. The crate that it came in was the same crate that came from Jack's garage/workshop. Anyways - enjoy.

The trailer itself has some of the interior done - not much though. It was built so that the 4-5 miniatures made could fit inside. It's quite cool. The trailer has working lights on the truck part and the KITT miniature has a working scanner and is supposed to have working rear lights (i haven't tested the rear lights)

I admit I was a little disappointed when I first saw the program; Stu had told me that they would be performing Knight Rider during the concert, but it wasn't listed on the schedule.
At the end of the concert, Steven Fox came back on stage for an encore, performing the theme from the X-Files. Pretty cool. When they were finished, the sound crew played a recording of Knight Rider over the sound system. It was a nice consolation to at least hear the song for the exit music. It looked like it was a last-minute decision, because the conductor seemed confused by it. He didn't know what to do, and kept gesturing as if to say "are we supposed to stay here? should we get off stage?" After about 20 seconds he just shrugged, raised his baton, the recorded music stopped and the orchestra took over live. Bazinga. It was very cool, and a fun "gotcha" trick.

After the concert, there was a VIP Reception which also served as an 80th birthday party for Stu. (80?! Happy Birthday Stu!) Stu wore a Battlestar Galactica T-shirt during the concert, but for the reception he changed into a KnightCon 2004 shirt (the Germany show.) I think that's a testament to how fondly Stu still thinks of Knight Rider and how much he enjoyed the convention. When I saw Stu, he "apologized" for not having more Knight Rider stuff in the concert. I put "apologized" in quotes because he had absolutely nothing to be sorry for; it was a fantastic show as is. He explained that it's tough to do KR in concert, because there really aren't long orchestrations for the show, the way there are with Galactica. No worries.

I also spoke with conductor Steven Fox to thank him for including Knight Rider in the concert. He told the story of how he went to Stu's house and Stu was playing all sorts of music for him, asking "well what about this piece? what about this one?" Stu then played Knight Rider, and Steven said he was brought back to being a kid, watching the show, and said they HAD to include it. So they added the little tribute at the end.

As I’m sure many of you will know, the Knight Rider 2008 DVD set was released on the 14th September here in the UK. Unfortunately, our plans to create a pre-release review were scuppered by the recent industrial action being carried out by the postal service. However, thanks to the efforts of the people at Universal Playback, we were finally able to get a copy early this month.

I know what you’re thinking, but in spite of the time lapse, the saying does go, better late than never. Sadly, circumstances have since conspired to prevent a complete review from taking place. As a result, I have decided to take this brief moment under the dawn’s early light to catalogue the content of each disc, so as to ensure that those of you that are still on the fence, will know the basics, such as how many discs are present, and what bonus features are available.

So, if you’d like to read further, feel free to follow the jump.

To begin with, there are four discs. On the episode front, disc one brings us the Feature Length Pilot, A Knight in Shining Armour, and Journey to the End of Knight.

Disc Two features Knight of the Iguana, A Hard Day’s Knight, Knight of the Hunter, Knight of the Living Dead (yes, it is a traditionally spooky Halloween episode), and I Wanna Rock & Roll All Knight.

Discs three and four contain another five episodes a piece, beginning with Knight of the Zodiac on disc three, which continues through to Knight to King’s Pawn, putting Knight Fever, Don’t Stop the Knight, and Day Turns into Knight in-between.

Unfortunately, disc four is where many will feel let down, as the episodes are in the order they were aired on TV, rather than the order they were produced. This means that the establishment of new set elements and story points are shown out of sequence, beginning with what was originally intended to be the finale, Exit Light, Enter Knight. This is followed up by Fight Knight, Fly by Knight, Knight and the City, and finally, what should have been the thirteenth episode, I Love the Knight Life.

Amongst the bonus features are the Icon Reborn featurette, K.I.T.T.: From 2000 to 3000 featurette, the Knight Rider Legacy featurette, and the feature length pilot episode commentary, all of which can be found on disc one. On disc two, there is also a gag reel.

Unfortunately, without having being able to watch any of these features, it’s hard to say just how much has been seen before. However, having said that, I suspect that everything baring the commentary on disc one will have been shown at some point prior to the premier of the pilot episode on Sci Fi earlier this year.

I find this to be somewhat disappointing, as this is likely to mean that there is very little new and unseen content, which in this day and age, is bound to exist in a digital archive of deleted scenes and alternative takes.

Still, there is plenty to be positive about given the likelihood that the new Knight Rider will not return for a second season, as often in cases like these, DVD sets can be cancelled as quietly as a show itself is, and at least this way, we have a keepsake of the journeys and missions that Mike and KITT embarked on during their short time together.

As they say, that in itself is worth its weight in gold.

Ever wanted to hear the Knight Rider theme performed live by a symphony orchestra? This weekend you have your chance as the legendary Stu Phillips will be the focus of a concert in San Pedro California, celebrating his work on Battlestar Galactica and Knight Rider. Mr. Phillips will be even conducting the 2nd half of the performance!

More details after the jump!

On Sat., Oct. 24th, 2009, a concert is taking place that will feature the music of Stu Phillips. Although a good deal of the performance will feature Battlestar Galactica music, there will be a performance of the Knight Rider theme with a full symphony orchestra. (The Golden State Pops Orchestra)

The concert will take place at the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro, CA. At 7:30 PM there will be a Q&A with the concert starting at 8:00 PM. A Champagne reception will follow the concert.

Stu Phillips will be conducting the second half of the concert. As an added attraction, Bear McCreary will be a guest conductor with his arrangements of the Galactica theme that he did for the new BSG series.

We are hoping to see many KR fans there.
