YES! I can't wait for this to become a series! Tv could use a sexy man and his sexy car nowadays!
i say that this show is all wrong and does not deserve the name Knight Rider the whole thing behind the original show is so lost in this one whats with this 2 minute thing where Micheal Knight shows at the end that was just a joke no real story like just all flash on the car and no personality just all about the car im very upset this is all wrong and should not even have gone on the air
First of all, Michael Knight is to old to continue being the next Knight Rider. What took place back then was 25 years ago. That was at a different place, different time, different society, different people, and different way of life back then. THIS IS NOT THE 1980's ANYMORE. It NOT only makes sense that they have his son continue on the legend, considering that he is younger and military trained, but if they're bringing this show back as a series, it only makes sense that they relate this show to being update with today's reality. I LOVED the car, HOWEVER I will admit that this new KITT's personality seemed a lot more like the old KITT's evil twin, KARR. Maybe his personality could've been better, but it was still okay. But besides all that, people loved growing up watching the old series because it was all about the magical car stopping the bad guys. "DUH". When they made this new movie I was actually hoping that they WOULDN'T show the people 10 times more than showing the car. BOY I was sure glad they didn't.
Oh and for those of you who keep whining and complaining from other parts of the website that this is a so called "COPY", HELLO, this story is suppose to be a FUTURISTIC CONTINUATION from the old series, NOT A REMAKE.
The show was brilliant. Showing the pontiac engine for a split second in the shop at the beginning was writing at its best. And having a short part with hasselfoff was perfect. The new car is just awesome and funny like the original. The show couldnt have been wrote any better. When does season one start???!!!!!
I love the show and wish they would hurry and make it a series. The new shelby is awesome and brings knight rider up to todays specs. I watched every episode of knight rider as I was growing up and would welcome the new and improved knight rider.
Interesting premise, bringing in Michael Knight's son. I imagined the possibilities, the potential story development here. But guess what, it hey don't really uncover very much here. I am thinking as I'm watching it, you know we just played to pieces the family/car thing, the Boy, Boy's Car, Son does Family Business thing, they just did two seasons of it over there with the Winchesters, the Metallicar and the Hunting, and with much better results.
I really wanted to enjoy it, and had fun watching all the great car shots. Well at least there's the car. As the original KITT was really a ponycar, I suppose the retrostang wasn't necessarily
unexpected, since there is no T/A anymore. Product placement for $$$ more than anything, and we were all laughing at how usually you see ugly insecure middle aged men driving these things anyway. I found myself thinking why didn't they just use another Pontiac, specifically, the new GTO!!!!! or at least the G8/Holden, either of which are faster, better handling and more realistic for the character here. The Retrostang - damn, Where's that low/wide futuristic look, the old '82 T/A had it all over, remember when that car came out, 1-9-8-2. Remember watching that thing slide around the desert sands, ever just watch one of these do a Rockford, it looks just amazing. So much for the car.
They didn't seem to really open up anything new, as far as in the way of epic re-launching or whatever-ology (think Dune/Children of Dune, Star Wars, etc, hell, even One Tree HIll), but I
suppose that's okay.
I really was holding out for some good talent moments. Some out-of-your seat
acting/directing ideas, some fascinating, plot twists, but they didn't seem to happen. Just some pretty standard predictable scenes stringing together a typical TV Movie.
As for the series? Is this a series premiere, I didn't realise it.
I wouldn't expect it, but if it is, I'll just add this. Maybe a whole new generation of kids are going to dig the car, like we did. Maybe if they can tweak some personality, some charisma
outta it and build some chemistry between it and the driver, all the better. One thing the old series had, no matter how campy, no matter how cheesy and all, no matter how bad the special effects got, there was always KITT's personality. He wasn't just a cool car with awesome moves, he wasn't just really really fast, he wasn't just indestructibly tough, for us kids, he was our buddy, or really, he was Michael's buddy, and we could easily see him as our buddy too. He was warm, funny, clever. They should try, but they haven't got there yet
either. And that, I would say imo is the best element of this whole KR thing anyway.
All I can say is WOW! I loved this movie/pilot. I do hope it becomes a series. I grew up with the original and am still a fan of it yet I feel that this re-imagining lends itself to a whole slew of possibilities!
IMO, I feel they showed a tremendous respect for the original series right down to the theme that has it's roots in the original yet updated for a new generation.
To those that seem to have a problem with the way this story played out, I offer this for consideration. How much do you think they can cram into a pilot/movie? The original series ran for years and introduced a lot of concepts. I think this re-imaging hit on all the strong points of the first series so I say to you. Give it a chance! The true development would come from a series. I can only imagine the possibilities!
Bring it on! People WILL watch it!
FROM: VINNY
TO: THE KNIGHT RIDER SHOW
I LIKED IT AND THOUGHT IT WAS COOL.
THE ONLY THING WAS THE BRAND OF CAR? I FELT THE SHOW COULD OF STILL USED THE NEW PONITIAC GTO, BESIDES THAT CAR IS A BEAUTY! THIS CAR STILL WOULD'VE HOLD KIT DOWN REAL SLEEK, FAST & FLY!!!!
THE SPECIAL EFFECTS ON THE CAR MORPHING, BEING ABLE TO RECONSTRUCT OR GETTING SHOT AT & THE BULLETS TRYING TO PENETRATE THE CAR WAS MAD/MATRIX STYLE.... THAT SCENE WAS MAD NICE!
ALSO, I KNOW THIS CAR IN REAL LIFE IS VERY FAST, BUT IT JUST DID'NT COME OFF ACROSS ON THE SCREEN LIKE THE SPECIAL EFFECTS USED IN THE MOVIE "THE FAST & THE FURIOUS". I WAS HOPING FOR SOME ACTION LINES, SOME STREAKS OF ITS COLOR FLASHING BY OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT.
IM NO EXPERT!, BUT I JUST FEEL LIKE THE QUICKNESS OF THE CAR COULD BEEN MAYBE MORE ENHANCED IN THAT WAY.
TILL THEN THANKS!
VINNY!
The show/pilot was very clever. I especially enjoyed KITT. The humor/sarcasm that KITT involves into futuristic situations make the scenes enjoyable.
The Characters are cleverly created to bring full-circle the past Knight Rider into modern times.
I watched 20+ years ago----AND am excited to watch again!!!!
GO KITT!!!!!
PS-sweet Shelby Mustang!!!!
The show was good, not great. Only so much they can put in a two hour tv movie. And for those who think that the GTO would have been a better way to go and faster then the Shelby KR, your out of your mind. It is the new age. The Shelby is the best choice that they could have gone with. If it wasn't that then they could have used the new Sting Ray. Either way so much better then the GTO. It was about the worst thing they did coming out with that car. Anyways, the movie left it open for the series if they decide to make one. If they do decide that then I will right there watching.
just watched the new show (on the internet, im in the U.K and was afraid it would be ages till we got to see it) am so glad they got it right,
with both glen larson and doug liman on board i
should have had more faith. as a made for tv movie and a (hopefully) start to a series, it really delivered. i think as a new show it would be a hit for the european audience, as was the original show, which i grew up being a big fan of. thumbs up to the studio on this one.
Both the Trans Am and the Mustang are great cars. But some of you folks gotta understand that Pontiac stopped making the Firebird Trans Am since 2002 and also stopped the GTO since 2006 because General Motors and other Dodge Companies are already having more muscle cars lined up for the next four years. Might as well use a car that's up to date for the here and now.
And besides, The Shelby-Cobra KR Mustang has 240 MORE HORSEPOWER than that of the Trans Am and 150 MORE HORSEPOWER than the GTO. Last model Trans Am was in 2002 and that only had 310 horses and the GTO had 400 horses. That's still a lot of power but NOT compared to a 550 horsepower Cobra KR Mustang. Not ot mention 510 pound-feet of torque. That's more than the Corvette ZO6.
All in all, I say the Cobra KR Mustang is the perfect Candidate for the job and they're only goona make 1000 of them retailing at $100,000. These are the only Mustangs that are hand built so you can't go wrong with that.
Oh and by the way, for those of you who don't remember or never knew, the Trans Am was destroyed on that 2 hour Code of Vengence episode.
Quite weak ,expected much more felt a bit cheated ,waited and waited for the hoff to appear and then the cracking line you may see me again (thats if i dont get drunk again!!)
Think thats the only clever bit leaving the door open ?
Not sure about the tang ,ive driven one in the uk and wasnt that bothered by it
The new kitt not friendly enough and wasnt easy to warm too
Still i think its been made for us in our late 30s rather than 13 year olds
Thought the f+f effects are old hat now please move on !
Seriously?? Personally I'll take a stock GTO over the Shelby KR any day of the week and would be wiling to debate superficial Dyno numbers vs. Real World Performance and Engineering (and Modding, heheh), but me thinks that much detail really belongs in a car forum and maybe not here (I'll see you there, all in fun, naturally). Still, the spirit of the engineering behind the '04-'06 GTO seems to more in line with the Knight vehicles. Advanced engineering for efficient, effective higher performance, whereas the Shelby, more of the same guzzler formula from days long gone, single axle, a redesigned 30 year old body, I don't know, people like both and that's fine. I wasn't sure I understood that a car has to be in production in order to be of use as a prop? Is this a new thing? I thought for sure I've seen otherwise in the movies somewhere. To each their own I suppose. As for the show, some others of you bring up some really good points about it, and I think I will hang on and check out the series if it comes to air. I would like to see how one of my all time (albeit very geeky) favorites evolves into the modern age, but this still seemed pretty muddled to me. For those interested, you can view all the original episodes by getting the full season DVDs at most major DVD retailers. I paid 20 bucks for Season 1 with the original as aired Series Premiere and for my money it was more than worthwhile just for that first episode alone, but I warn you, looks very late 70-ish. (cool if you like that sort)
This show was ok I think it needed a little more action scenes. I have always been a Ford man and love mustangs but that never stopped me from watching the original Knight Rider series it was great for its time P.S. Lets make a remake of STREETHAWK next LOL
This was shockingly bad and trashed on the original series which as dated as it is is still vastly better, the only good think is based on the movie it will be a miracle if this actually gets a regular tv series.
I Thought That the knight 3000 Knight Rider was
put together very well, Michel knight in the
original series had numerous relations with
woman, that Michel Knight had a son fits, and
The creator of the Knight 2000 also puts the
story together, and the creator was in hiding
to protect the secret of the Trans AM.
I am a True Knight Rider Fan I hope they
make the New Knight Rider with Heart and care
to preserve the stories of what the original
series was about
Dan
YO....Fan of the Trans Am. READ UP THE SPECS Through edmunds.com. The rated #1 source of vehicle research. You don't always need no dyno to compare horsepower.
Oh and an After-market Trans Am (or GTO) does not count. I compared ALL 3 vehicles STOCK.
Besides, a stock SVT Cobra was always more powerful than that of the stock Trans Am for a while.
I thought the show was a little too much on the softer side, but all in all I enjoyed it very much. Still think the car should have stayed in the Pontiac line, but the Mustang was a great choice of cars to use in the new movie. I hope that there is more to come and that the series will get better and run as long as the first one did. It is awesome that i'm 35 yrs old and they are bringing some of my childhood back in some form. I loved the show as a kid and I still like it today.
the mustang is way better, performance and looks, anyone who disses it and says that the t/a or any other pontiac is better, they are sadly mistaken and dont know cars. maybe u guys better stick to mullets and classic rock, i mean come on trans am fan, u are a joke, maybe if u actually owned a car and REALLY new how to drive it, you wouldnt be so quick to judge
Hi, I was 9 years old when Knight rider started. I watched the new pilot and felt just the way I felt when I was a kid watching the original. It perfectly captured the spirit of the original without insulting my inteligence too much.
As for the car - I've read lots of trash talk about the new car and how the show was nothing but an add for the car. The original car was a trans-am, made by Pontiac. Pontiac is a word meaning "FIRE BIRD". Like a pheonix. The Pheonix foundation logo was the Pontiac logo. the original series was an hour long commercial for the Trans-am. So, if the new series is an hour long commercial for Ford. SO be it. I still think it will be cool.
I look forward to it.
Did anyone notice that the new KITT basically has the same abilities as the car from the short lived series "Viper?" The whole camo thing, and the ex-military guy becoming the driver. It was more a remake of Viper than Knight Rider. If I was KITT, I would complain that my predecessor could jump and do all kinds of cool things, and I got short changed.
I really was hoping we could dispense with the car talk and move this forum back to it's original discussion, the Knight Rider movie broadcast. But they've no idea how to move their car discussion to where it belongs, apparently.
For TRUE FAN (sic) and it doesn't matter...
Bunch of whiney flamers. Get over it already. Seems you're only purpose in being here is to flame anyone that doesn't already share you're opinion. Look at your own user name TRUE FAN. Just a cheap slam on the poster previous to your first post. Simpleton.
What I and some others here were merely saying was that in our opinion the show basically SUCKS. And we don't think all that much of it being one big long FORD COMMERCIAL either. Try to stay on topic. Do try to learn to read and write also. It's helpful in people having a discussion on a common topic. I am outta this place, enjoy!
PS
If you do make it over to discuss the actual cars I'll be there. Yes I own 2 vehicles, and have owned and driven quite a variety more before that, but I'll leave that alone since you all probably can't count so high anyway. I also have been formally trained to drive them by the US Military (both pursuit and emergency response purposes) so I do know what I'm talking about you'll see. You really should think first before you slam your foot in your mouth repeatedly.
And if you ever do get some decent Ford onto the road, just remember when we Pontiac drivers fly right on by you, that we all know your car really is better, the internet even says so!
hey i watched every show of the original series way back then. and i am glad they are at least trying to bring it back. i have two young kids who have watched the reruns and i am right there with them and love it. so i hope they bring it back full time. yes its a new time and new place but the same old base a good guy stoping the bad guys and getting in with the good looking girls doing it. its a time old ordeal that every great show has had.
i do agree the stang was nice, but not right. its not all about hp or the fastest car its the style. and knight rider will always be known by the Pontiac-TA. and being pontiac is a GM company and with GM haveing the new camaro and the posibilty of bringing back the TA. (I have seen the pics from GM and its a posibilty, they are thinking about it.) i just realy think the car could have been different. and keep with the orginal base with a new and updated look.
Not that I'm downing the Trans Am or anything, but for anyone who says that car or a GTO is better than a Shelby-Cobra KR Mustang is a fool. First of all, I've never known a stock Trans Am for beating a Mustang Cobra.
Although I'm a Nissan fan myself, I may not be a fan of Ford, but I'm sure not stupid either. As someone mentioned earlier on other parts of this site, if someone dropped the keys of a 500+ horsepower Ford on may lap, you bet your ass I'm rollin on that. I've never seen a Pontiac touch that kind of horsepower unless if it's aftermarket.
Anyways, I thought the show had a lot of potential and I enjoyed it, and regardless of what vehicle it was, the car stayed true to it's capability as an A.I. And I also kind of expected to see this new KITT a bit different.
Oh and it's kind of week to hear people bitch about "OOHH, OOHH, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TRANS AM". Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a great car, but it's not like they even make that vehicle anymore.
Last thing for me to say in this page is, if you can't except the show for the new things it has, fine, go ahead, bitch about it. Don't bother watching the show then. Let others like it and enjoy the show for what it's meant for.
That's exactly what it is good for, for the kids really. If I wanted my kids or the neighborhood kids to watch just about anything then fine, but Knight Rider, the old ones, have some magic in the way the kindle the imagination for the younger audience, this latest isn't going to have that, even if it get's to air. I think those of us who care about the young ones should be vocal when we see that missing from this recreation. One noticable part of it is the car. (and AGAIN, ENOUGH WITH THE STOCK vs STOCK ALREADY, KITT IS ANYTHING B-U-T STOCK, GREAT BIG D-U-H!!! They only want the stock vs stock ONLY argument because Ford advertising knows that's the only place they have a chance, that car is crap, and these guys on here know it, LMFAO) Getting back to it though, from here, the acting, the writing, the blatent advertising, it just goes down hill. All this onanisticism is really nice and all, but when you know the show could easily have been so much better, when you know the kids should deserve better, why not say something. Stock car only and stock entertainment only too. Wow, people here have no imagination. I thought this was a forum for Knight Rider fans, not for blindly accepting anything with the words Knight Rider stamped on it.
I was just going to add that not a single Bored er um Ford is in the top ten for Fastest Productions Cars, there's like 3 Chevy's, a Dodge, a Plymouth, a Porsche, a Ferrari and so on, nope no Fords though, to be fair no Pontiacs either. Though the first front-wheel drive production car to break 200 mph was a Pontiac (with original production block). Cool. Just thought I take an earlier poster's advice and do some research on the internet. Oh here's a cool one, back in 1985 Car and Driver magazine took a stock production car and while remaining street legal, emissions passing and every day drivable, managed to boost it up to 200+ MPH - oh it's one of these whatsits what kind of car - lemme see - a Pontiac Trans Am. Cool.
In 1960, Mickey Thompson's "Challenger 1" did 406 MPH, with four Pontiac 389 engines! In 1961 a "Mickey Thompson" factory 1961 Pontiac Catalina with the new factory Pontiac 421 "Super Duty " engine did a 1/4 mile in 12.55 seconds @ 110 MPH, unbelievable for 1961. In 1964 the debut of the new 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 "Thunderbolt" 427 cid and the new Mopar 426 cid Hemi, (also older Mopar 413 and 426 wedge cars) factory raced against Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick, "Mr. Pontiac" and his factory 1963 Pontiacs with 421 "Super Duty" engines. Arnie Beswick slaughtered the new 1964 Ford "Thunderbolts" 427s with his Wife's 1963 Pontiac Tempest four door station wagon with factory 421 S.D. engine and 1963 factory Pontiac Tempest Lemans 421 S.D. cars and every one else that showed up! Pontiac was the first to break a factory 1/4 mile time in 1961 of 12.55 seconds, no factory car ever did that before! Pontiac is the True Legend Car! Any one who knows car history knows Pontiac Ruled in the early 1960s! Any fastest production car list that excludes Pontiac in their lists are biased or ignorant of car history! In history books from the 1970s - 1990s, and on the internet now there are many references backing up Pontiac as the leader in Race cars in the early 1960s and the first Muscle car the 1964 Pontiac GTO! Pontiac Rules Knight Rider!
Jim Wagners, 1/4 mile in 14.1 seconds @ 102.4 MPH, in a factory 1960 Pontiac Catalina 389 S.D. (Super Duty), Fastest production car that year. Fastest production car 1961, Hayden Proffitt, 1/4 mile in 12.55 seconds @ 110.2 MPH with a factory 1961 Pontiac Catalina 421 S.D., (Mickey Thompson car). Also in 1961 Lloyd and Carol Cox did a 1/4 mile in 13.8 seconds @ 105.65, with a 1961 Pontiac Ventura 389 S.D.. 1962 a Royal Pontiac "Bobcat" 1962 Pontiac Catalina did a 1/4 mile in 12.38 seconds. Factory 1963 Pontiac Catalina "Swiss Cheese" 421 S.D.s would do 1/4 mile times of 12 seconds at over 116 MPH, also the faster factory 1963 Pontiac Tempests with 421 "Super Duty" engines were much faster than the "Swiss Cheese " Catalinas. Factory 1964 Ford "Thunderbolt" 427s would do 1/4 mile times of 12 seconds or bettar, yet Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick, "Mr. Pontiac slaughtered the "Thunderbolts and new Mopar 426 Hemi cars in their debut! Check www.arniebeswick.com/biohtm, and 2006 inductee international drag racing hall of fame arnie "the farmer" beswick, and grocery getter/ history or grocery getter wagon/ history. If in a factory production car list does not include a Factory 1961 Pontiac Catalina 421 "Super Duty , 1/4 mile of 12.55 seconds @ 110.2 MPH, there is something wrong! Pontiac hand built their factory 421 S.D. race motors, and upgrades for both 389 and 421 engines were done factory at dealerships, so they would not slow down their production line, for these Factory production race engines. Throw these cars in the list of anyones fastest Production car list and Pontiac was and still is very impressive, and will rank near the top. Remember Pontiac Ruled the early 1960s no one could even touch them factory. It true, it's history and there is lots of authentic proof in books, magazines and internet to back Pontiac. Pontiac was the first in race engines (389 S.D and 421 S.D engines) and muscle cars (1964 Pontiac GTO). Pontiac Rules Knight Rider, the True Legend Car!

1961 Pontiac Catalina 421 S.D. Factory Race Car (Mickey Thompson), Hayden Proffitt did a 1/4 mile in 12.55 seconds @ 110.2 MPH, first factory car under 13 seconds in the 1/4 mile! PONTIAC RULES!

Pontiac was the first original Knight Rider car, and always will be!
1963 Challenge Cup 250, at Daytona Speed Weeks, first place: 1963 Pontiac Tempest Lemans 421 Super Duty, a Ray Nichels car, driven by Paul Goldsmith, - more than "Five Miles" behind 2nd place: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette 427, driven by A.J. Foyt, and also over 5 miles behind; 1963 Corvettes, Cobras, Ferraris, etc.! Pontiac the only car for Knight Rider!
1963 Ferrari 250 GTO(s), got beat severely by a 1964 Pontiac Tempest Lemans 421 Super Duty, with 2X4 barrel carburation, a Ray Nichels car, driven by Paul Goldsmith, at Daytona Speed Weeks, "Challenge Cup 250". The # 50 Pontiac Tempest Lemans 421 S.D. also beat 1963 AC Cobras, 1963 Chevrolet Corvette 427s and any other World Class GT cars that showed up by more than Five Miles! Yes PONTIAC, the Real Legend! Pontiac for Knight Rider, is there another deserving car? NO WAY!

Ummm ... Pontiac is the famous chief of the Ottawa (Native Americans) who led an unsuccessful rebellion against the British. It does NOT mean "Fire Bird".
And the Phoenix Foundation logo in the show was a "knight" chess piece, with a border around it. Since the early 1960s, Pontiac's logo has been an arrowhead (called the "dart"). Prior to that, it was a likeness of Pontiac's head.
You were right about a "Fire Bird" being like a phoenix, though. At least you got one right.
