TURBO BOOST or REGULAR JUMP?

Post by Keon2005 » Thu Jun 16, 2005 4:32 pm

In the episode "Bad Day at White Rock" would you categorize Kitt going airborne over the lake as a Turbo Boost or a regular Dukes of Hazzard style jump?

I'm gonna go with turbo boost on this one, I don't think he could have made that jump without it.
By the by, on that same episode, when 'mean biker no.1' and some other bloke are riding along, the former says something about having (KITT and Michael) on 'our type of ground' what does the other bloke say in reply?
I have never been able to figure out what hes saying!
Anyone any ideas?

Just a minor correction...the episode is called "Good day at White Rock"

Turbo Boost, while they did hit a "natural/convenient" ramp, you would need outside thrust to make that jump and land it cleanly (cuz the Trans Am sure didn't ;))
Michael: "KITT! Where are ya?!"
K.I.T.T.: "I'm in your parking space, Michael, where else would I be?"

my question is how is it that the same button (turbo boost) do two different things (jump / go super fast)?

How exactly Michael makes it different is just standard '80s television. :) There are tiny LEDs above the old buttons which signify what specific boost is being used, but no switch to choose that I know of.

Well, it depends on where KITT's boosters are pointed. If they're pointed straight back, it'll just speed the car up, if their pointed diagonally down and back, it'll lift the car off the ground. As for how Michael controls it, I guess KITT is analyzing the situation and is just supposed to know. In "A Plush Ride" Michael tells KITT to point his boosters forward when they're rolling down the hill.
Michael: "KITT! Where are ya?!"
K.I.T.T.: "I'm in your parking space, Michael, where else would I be?"

Its hard to tell in the earlier episodes anyway as they didnt introduce the turbo boost sfx we all know until later on.

also on that jump you hear a distinctive 'thud' noise as the car hits the ramp which was put in as a sfx then just the long turbine noise as you see the car nose dive in slow motion. hmmm

I agree. KITT's voice activated and also has a mind of his own, so he'd know what was needed. In fact, Michael doesn't really even need to press the button, technically. ;)

Some Turbo Boosts in season 1 weren't emphasised as Turbo Boosts, and shown as ordinary jumps.
It wasn't really until season 2, the producers started to make the most of the Turbo Boost feature,
as something that could make KITT go temporarily airborne for a few seconds.

Because in Season 1, "Rocket Fire" made KITT jump, I believe, but only later was the "Turbo Boost" button assigned that task.
"Knight Rider 2008 - A brain-rotting flight into the mind-numbing world of a poor excuse for a television show...that should not exist!"

FIGHT the quest for Season 2 - spare us the trash!!

Haha it seems like the function of turbo boost depends entirely on whether Michael throws himself back in his seat

And of course we can't forget Michael always looking out the rear window after landing. I swear it was like a ritual. What was he looking for exactly? The expressions of shocked drivers and pedestrians? :P
Flyer Guy: "You really a talking car?"
KITT: "No. I'm a tight end for the Chicago Bears!"

I agree totally here. He Turbo Boosted off of the ramp. (If anything, he got an enhanced Turbo Boost from the ramp providing more distance.) The ramp was specifically shown so that the bikers could try and duplicate the jump and fail miserably.

I was just going to say, if you listen carefully, you can hear KITT hit the ramp and you hear a THUD sound.

I thought this was a blooper but since you guys came out with an explanation, that blows it out of the window.
