Knight Rider (2008) - It's a shame, NBC

Post by PBH » Mon Dec 31, 2012 9:07 am

Okay, so the show only started to get better mid-way in. Still, it showed promised and had room for a lot of improvement.

What I still don't understand is this. Yes, the shows ratings may have been low enough for NBC to cancel on the network. However, this show is EASILY syndicated.

VIPER was a failed NBC show as well, but it was later picked up and syndicated, going for four seasons. And of course, let's not forget that NBC also cancelled Baywatch after the first season, and again, the show was syndicated and went world wide, becoming the #1 show on the planet for a while there and lasting... *ahem*... 11 seasons!!!

I'm a huge KR fan, but speaking as an outside observer, yes, ratings weren't enough for the NBC network. It's logical and I can easily accept that. However, a real opportunity was lost for syndication. It's a real shame.

The fact that the ratings were actually climbing toward the end of the season goes to show how greedy NBC were and were not willing to be patient to see the show through to see it's slow road to success. They made some bad mistakes at the beginning of the season, so it's their fault that the show wasn't more successful in a shorter amount of time, but once they made improvements the ratings climbed but I guess they wanted a sharp rise. That just was never going to happen with a show like Knight Rider.

I seem to recall an interview with one of the cast members said they didn't know if they would be cancelled mid season from the original kr.Look what happened back then,it was allowed to flourish and in the end it lasted 3 more seasons.Too bad we couldn't all learn from history doomed to repeat it or in this case we could have been blessed to.
