NBC passes on Wonder Woman

Post by Michael Pajaro » Mon May 16, 2011 7:06 pm

Justin Bruening was set to play Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman revival, but NBC decided not to pick up the show.

Other networks already passed on the project before NBC tried to move forward with it, so it's probably dead at this point.

How many bad decisions can a network make besides killing knight rider twice?

I hope that at some point they'll put the unaired pilot on Hulu or iTunes so we can see for ourselves. But as far as NBC making a bad decision here, I'm not sure about that. David E. Kelley produced it, who has a pretty good track record with legal dramas TV (Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Legal) but isn't known for action-adventure.

Check out one review of the script:
"it’s laughably bizarre...Wonder Woman is presented as a weepy career woman-slash-superheroine...The result is a Wonder Woman who is more like Kelley’s Ally McBeal than the feminist superhero who stands side-by-side with her fellow DC icons Superman and Batman. This is a woman whose feelings are hurt by people commenting on her breast size, who is looking for love in all the wrong places, and who wants to have it all!"

Oh, and the first action sequence is done to Beyonce's "Single Ladies." Yikes.

Maybe NBC made the right decision after all?

I think in my opinion perhaps the NBC made the right and wrong, because president Robert Greenblatt is a boss and now also decides the new television series Wonder Woman 2011...

I'm sure it didn't help that Wonder Woman's outfit looked like a halloween costume, either. A lot of people complained which prompted producers to say that she would be alternating between three different looks. That couldn't be good.
