Is there a KR/TKR Timeline?

Post by Alteron_Sheng » Fri Jun 04, 2010 4:39 am

*waves hesitantly* Hi, first time posting here, and my first time at this site as well. While I've been a fan of KR and TKR since I first saw the pilot episode back in the 80s, I haven't really done much scouting around on the net and thus did not realise what a large following the show that I loved had! i am glad to see that I am in such fine company!

Mayhaps I am looking in the wrong locations, or I may simply be entering my searches wrong (both are the likely cause) but while I have found several posts referencing a timeline... I can not seem to find an 'in character' timeline for the Knight Rider series, or the TKR series. Does such exist, and if so, does anyone have a link to it?
I hope that I am not being rude in asking, but I was working on a fanfic and wanted to check in character 'dates' and found that I could not seem to find a timeline to do so.

I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this, and again... well to be honest I am simply giddy to know that i am not alone in loving this show!
...and I adore the 'KR' specific smilies sooooooo much....

The timeline between the different versions of Knight Rider is a bit sketchy, and some aspects contradict one another. The timeline (in chronological order, not the order in which each production was made) is as follows:

Knight Rider, officially August of 1982 to some point in 1990 (according to Knight Rider 2000).

Team Knight Rider, officially some time from 1997-1998. I've never seen this series, but from what I have heard K.I.T.T. makes an appearance as some type of orb which contradicts him sitting in moth balls for a decade, according to KR2K.

Knight Rider 2000, taking place February 19, 2000. Michael retires in 1990 to run a bass charter in Seattle, Washington, for 10 years. K.I.T.T. has since been dismantled and most of his parts and chips auctioned off to continue funding for the prototype Knight 4000. These facts contradict the facts stated in TKR, but these events do technically occur after that series.

Knight Rider (backdoor pilot)/Knight Rider:The Series, taking place from February 17, 2008 - March 4, 2009. The Knight 3000 is completed (no mention as to why a "3000" model came after a "4000" model). Mike Traceur is the son of Michael Knight, who in the backdoor pilot has a driver's license that reveals his birthdate of June 10, 1983. This marks his conception date at approximately October 10, 1982. We learn Michael Knight fathered him with a mysterious woman named Jennifer, who never has a mention in the original series. However, some missions had passed between the original series pilot episode and the first official episode, "Deadly Maneuvers," which aired in October of '82. So it's quite possible that Michael fathered Mike off-camera before his mission in "Deadly Maneuvers." Apparently Michael's job was too dangerous for a real relationship and Jennifer was placed in hiding not to be heard from until the new series. Also, the character of Dr. Charles Graiman is revealed to be a behind-the-scenes top engineer of the original K.I.T.T., operating and also placed in hiding under Wilton Knight's orders.

Knight Rider 2010, taking place in 2010. I've also never seen this film, but from what I understand it is set in an apocalyptic future, which technically happens after KR: The Series (meaning something serious must have gone down at some point in 2009!). It also apparently has no mention of any characters from previous incarnations and its only similarities with the faranchise is a driver and a talking car. However, technically nothing here contradicts any previously established canon.

Yeah, the KR TV Movies/Series alter the facts pretty much. The OS says pretty much that MK didn't have a serious relationship with anybody besides Stevie, But nothing is said about a child, pretty much questioning Mike Traceur and Jenny Andrews existence.

As for the Devon Miles death, His death is shown in the TV Movie Knight Rider 2000, but even though Devon Miles death is mentioned in TKR TV series, there isn't a KIFT in this series. Only the Knight Industries 2000 CPU in an ORB, and "Shadow" a holographic figure which maybe was Micheal Knight's outline. Micheal Knight was shown in the TKR series in the end wearing a black trenchcoat. Interesting enough, Graiman being KITT's Main creator could be pretty much reasonable, because the Creator of the program, and the actual builders could've been the same or different people.

One thing about TKR that also states that no KIFT was in this timeline was the Knight Reformulation One, what could be considered the first Marland Technologies Vehicle. It was designed with KITT's information put into the shell of a Ferrari. And with MK being undercover with the OS is completely reversed with the TKR operatives wearing Bluish Jumpsuits. TKR was government controlled, with not many missions that helped the "Ordinary Person", but dangerous situations like terrorists, super weapons, and superbaddies that wanted power. None of the TKR Vehicles had a "Knight Industries Label" except the Knight Alpha, and Focus like Vehicle that actually said he could TURBOBOOST. But nobody with the last name "Knight" was really a prominent character in the series. Dante had a rebuildable shell in the last episode, kinda like the 08 series. UNFORTUNATELY there wasn't many actual inside shots of the vehicles. But on some eps, the interior looks kinda like an Arcade machine, with round buttons and black letters.

The 08 pilot/series never revealed the whereabouts of the original crew, but in one ep had the characters have the codenames, Bonnie and Devon. The 08 series was more like Viper with a transforming vehicle. and no "Knight" characters in the series besides Mike Traceur. This series was government controlled also until the last few episodes. But the KI3T vs KARR (If its the same original KARR was never officially shown) episode was when the series went more like the classic.

Knight Rider 2010 had the "Loner and talking car" approach, but no links to the original series. Interesting enough, there was a "Bad SuperCar" in the movie, but It didn't have an AI.

If KR 2000 was a more action oriented movie instead of the rushed drama type, it would've been more like a real connection to the OS.
