In the series it was a normal Trans Am duel exhaust. The so-called normal "V-8 rumble" was dubbed over with Universal's jet engine sound effect throughout the series. What you hear on the fan made replicas are also sound effects.
“Gimme maximum turbo thrust and blast me outta here, will ya!?”

The original KITT had the two single chamber mufflers out back. This setup has KITT's very distinct rumble. To me, it definately sounds like a 350 or 305 . As for the turbine sound, I know Brenon(Lectric Enterprises) has a scanner that incorporates the turbine sound also. I'm trying to develop a turbine sound that will go with RPM of the car. I've done tried alot out there, like turbos (STS) turbo systems, all the way to the turbo whistler. That's a very hard sound to duplicate. My ride right now will have a set of timing gears and a turbo to try and duplicate it, but I've found a couple of things that will probably get the job done, just got to do more research. I also think Billy (Custom Designs) is also working on the jet (turbine sound) too. So, if it can be done, I'm sure he will achieve it. Anyway. This is a great topic and I'd love to hear of ideas about the turbine sound . Anyway. You guys (and ladies) take it easy. Talk with ya soon

Any ideas if a turbine resonator would work in giving a car a jet engine sound along with the engine rumble???
