I've been listening to a lot of songs featured in KR eps but I wonder how come they never sound the same as in the ep. IMO, I think the songs are sped up slightly in the ep. Does anyone know if they have been altered for the show?

In the show, they are not done by the same artists. Most of them are done by a cover artist to try to simulate the sound of the original, but still slightly off.

When getting clearances for a song to air in a program like that, you generally have to pay royalties to not only the song writer, but if you are going to use the original version of the song, you have to pay the performer of that version. At times, it was just easier to simulate the song with a cover band, and cut down on the charge.

I actually liked a few of the songs on the show better than the original versions !

The politics of dancing by Reflex for example, used in The Ice Bandits, i think its much cooler in the episode than the proper one, its faster and just sounds better.

It's called New Wave, and if you don't like it, don't listen to it.

Speaking of "80's disco tech crap," I was always disappointed that my two favorite bands Duran Duran, and the Human League never got covered for KR. Especially DD, as they were very popular during KR's run. Oh well :D

I don't think Human League/Duran Duran were Michael's 'thing', really. I thought that the music generally mirrored what Michael would listen to, even when it moved away from the popular country tunes. The pop music of latter episodes also added to the 'feel' of the show - sunny, fast, current tunes.

A minor query, but weren't the songs featured mostly by American artists, too? I don't think there were any/many* (* delete as appropriate) British/European sounds on the show. The original Fleetwood Mac hail from the UK, but their 80s sound was influenced by the more recent American bandmates, I think. :?:

Interesting point, and I think your right, most if not all were American. Kind of odd, considering Brittish new wave bands pretty much dominated the charts during the 80s. Your right, though. I see the music featured as music MK himself would listen to.
