Kitt questions.....

Post by LadyKnight » Sat Jan 18, 2003 2:19 pm

Some questions that have been bothering me for a while:

* How can Kitt receive all the data and stuff without having a single antenna on his roof? Even a normal plain carradio needs an antenna.

* Why isn't there a license plate on the front of the car? Over here it's illegal to drive without one.

* Did Kitt have any airbags?

* How come when Michael/David turned the ignition on, the dashboard didn't activate sometimes? Did it really work or was it just a prop they forgot to plug in?

Greetz,

1) Infrared and satellite communications. Not all cars need radio antennas, a radio antenna just boosts a signal.

2) It's not illegal in some states to not have a frontal license plate.

3) No, KITT did not have airbags. He had a passive laser restraint system. KITT is not your ordinary car, he is, technically, the car of the future.

4) The dashboard was a prop. KITT wasn't real. In the storyline, sometimes the dash was already on, othertimes, KITT was on standby.

Well on the license plate issue, it wouldn't look right. It's illegal to run in California without front plates, but no one has pulled me over yet 8)

No I don't think william daniels ever appeared in an episode I haven't spotted it if he did.
Maybye it would have been thought of as just to silly for him to do so.

No, he did not.

William Daniels wanted to keep the illusion of KITT being as real as possible intact, so he stayed away from the show.

I've heard he did show up on 'Baywatch' alot, usually speeding by the camera in a black Firebird, slowing down long enough to be noticed! I've been meaning to watch 'Boy Meets World' a little more closely for any sly KR references.

Actually, he only showed up on Baywatch once, and it was a momentary shot. There were occasionally KR references within Baywatch, though.

My favorite two Knight Rider references on Baywatch were in one episode when they were using a amphibious vehicle and the lfeguard who was driving said "Hey it does everything but talk" Mitch says "Doesn't talk what good is it then". Another time Mitch was babysitting a baby and He said to the baby "Knight Rider's on do you like Knight Rider?"

And didn't KITT ge the "Passive Lazer Restraint System" in the 4th season with the SPM? I know he didn't have it at the beginning of the show. And its illegal here in Wisconsin without a plate as well.. but I've had mine off for 4 years.. and no problems yet... looks much better without it. And about the no antenna thing.. just think about some cell phones.. the new ones don't have an external antenna.. they are built in.. just boosted.

The problem of an antannae destroying the looks of a car is also why I haven't built a CB or any extensive communications apparatus into my car yet. To make it work well without an external antannae, it takes guts and risk. I despise the look of a 12 foot antannae on an Oldsmobile. It gives the rest of us Olds drivers a bad name.

I agree on the looks.. I have wanted to put in a CB in my car.. but I don't like the look of antenas.. in fact I have removed my raio antenna from my car since I had installed a cd player and never listen to the radio.. but I know what you mean.

Call me stupid but what did it actually do and look like this Passive Lazer Restraint System?
Did it putt an invisible seatbelt across Michael?

I'm not so good at those high tech terms and phrases, sorry about that.

I alway assumed invisible lasers held him in place.

Well, on the average, a laser is invisible to the naked eye, and in theory, the lasers did hold him in place. (Reality theory, it wouldn't have worked that well, but eh, gadgets are fun.)
