80's music in Knight Rider

Postby KNIGHT RAIDER » Feb 21, 2005 12:38 pm

There is one thing I really enjoy the most about Knight Rider and that is the songs they play throughout the show. Much of the songs they play are top hits from the 80's, which bring back wonderful memories of the music video era. They usually begin the episodes with a top hit song when they flash the name title on screen and when we see Michael & KITT driving long distances.
I don't need no "Wizard Of Oz Car" putting me behind the 8 ball, for nothing. LOL (The Rev)

All they did was blow away a "Ringmaster", they didn't even steal any hamburgers. LOL (Michael)

On the subject on music in the show.

I can only think of 2 songs that I think are sung by the origanal artist's:

"Calafionia Girls", by the Beeach boys, In Merchants of Death, and "go for it" by Kim Wilde in Knight Racer.

Anyone know any diffrent?

However the covers they used were realy good!

I thought the Beeach boys sounded like the real song,

But Kim Wilde's Go for it I am 100% sure of,

Kitt is playing the video, and it is Credited at the end of the episode!

Could be, that episode isn't so fresh in my brain (must have been at least a decade since I've seen it). KR was big on covers, cheaper I believe. Maybe Kim was more resonable than the other groups.

I like the way Miami Vice handled covers better. Rather than passing off obivious covers as the real thing, they always had a band playing in the background at a party or something doing the cover. I was watching the DVDs last night and they had a band playing "self control" at some drug runners party. However, 90% of the music in that show was the real thing.

I liked self Controll in Haloween Knight and Kitt VS Karr, if I hear it on the radio I always think of those 2 episode's.

BTW I was sad to hear that Laura Branigan had died last August, only found out the other day after the song was played!

Indeed, the 80's music in the KR episodes goes along well with the series. Doesn't KR have an episode soundtrack of some sort? I know many web sites list which songs play with what show but I have yet to find something official.

I am always worried that Unversal will cut off some of this great music in some of the later seasons....

I think there were actually a few songs sung by the original artists in season 3. "Talking In Your Sleep," "Self Control," and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" from the pilot. Season 3 was the most dependent on music out of all the seasons I think. This may be the only chance we have at having original music left intact on the DVDs since most of them were covers.

Being an Aussie it was surprising to hear 'I Come From The Land Down Under' by Men At Work. A classic in aussie culture. Had to do a double check with my ears when that came on, in a season 1 episode, not sure which one though. :D

Cheers

They also used Yes's "Owner of a lonely heart" at least a couple of times and it was the original version.

In Miami Vice they used original music to some extent, but 95% of the music heard in the show was composed by Jan Hammer.

Take it Easy is by far my favorite song! It is a cover because the Eagles sing that...and that's deffinitely not the Eagles in the show. My second favorite is Gypsy by FleetwoodMac which is also a cover in "Silent Knight."

Hi all.
On the note of music, would anyone be able to tell me what the song was called at the beginning of the episode "The final verdict"? It started playing just after they reversed out of the semi after michael telling Devon that he needed to go and help his friend in jail.
To be honest I'm not really a country music fan, but I love music to drive to and that sounded great to drive to, as you see lots of ariel shots of KITT driving. I would like to know what it is called and who sings it if possible as I would like to try and find it.
Thank you all, and it's nice to see you all again after a period of absence.

Gold Coast Knight.

Hello,

I think when Michael is trying to sort things out in 'Knight of the Juggernaut', the Tina Tuner 'We don't need another Hero', is great.

Did anyone notice the song "When Doves Cry" during an episode of "knight Rider" where Michael and KITT try to stop crooks who had set out to destroy lives with a poison coming from an exotic flower, and Michael had eventually gotten the worst of the poison himself soon after the lady named Cindy did? I hope so....
