This just dawned on me....

Yo Sarfraz!!! Remember that black ribbon that we saw hanging out at the back of the 1/43 KITT (or KARR) prior to its release? We were speculating and wondered what it was for.. We even guessed correctly in that it was to activate the scanner...

Image

We had no idea then that the 1/43 cars wld have a light up moving scanner.... It was a surprise from Aoshima..

Maybe I'm jumping into conclusions here, but I wonder if there are any surprises this time from Aoshima for the 1:18 cars...hmmmm.....

Oh ya, and by the way.. Sarfraz, in case u are wondering how I managed to get stuff from HLJ now, (remember the trouble I went through to get the 1:43 cars?) is because I have a debit card now.... All so convenient.... LOL..

The front reflector in that picture is actually orange, and the rear is red. But yes, the front one should be yellow and the rear one red. In every die-cast model I've seen, the front reflector is always painted orange for some reason.

I Saw the New Ertl 1/18 Scale Model

Post by TransAmKITT2000 » Sat Oct 30, 2004 3:08 pm

I saw the new Ertl 1/18 scale model of Kitt in picture form and it
looks very good. There is something to take note of,it has the Firebird
logo on the rear door pillar. The real-life counter part never had this.I
never seen it on KITT in the televison series.

ERTL have confirmed that that is a pre-production sample and the Firebird logo won't be in the final model that is released.

I just realised that the title of this thread has changed stating that the 1:18 KITT/KARR will be released in December.. Is this confirmed? I though it will be released in November for both Aoshima and ERTL??? Patience is not one of my virtues... I will be going for my national service on the 14th of December.. I really hope the model will be released by then.....

Decembers no biggie for me. The rest of my order is being released in December so it increases the chance of everything being sent at once. National service Imran?....hope you don't get too profficient with the gun and run to hlj.com demanding your cars

Ertl reply

Post by corlando52 » Sun Oct 31, 2004 6:51 pm

I know I posted this before, but I get the feeling that some readers haven't read the preceeding pages, so, here I go again.
This is directly from the product manager at Ertl in reply to my questions, first about the Aoshima and Ertl models looking similar:
The models you are referring to are identically releases. They will be shipped into worldwide markets.
I then asked 1- for the official release date, 2-if the yellow fog lights would be corrected to white and the TransAm decal removed from the front fender, and 3-are they anticipating any other Knight Rider related releases?
The reply:
The KITT car should be available in stores in December. You can check TRU, Walmart and Kmart stores.

The samples that were shown in Chicago and Las Vegas were early decorated samples, not production pieces. The fog lights and Trans Am deco will be corrected before production.

The KITT car is the only one we are producing at this time, we are checking into producing KARR later in 2005.
I appologize to anyone who is reading this again. I thought it important enough to repeat for those who didn't see the previous post.

Chris

Nice pic of the prototype KITT, it has the TA badgings and silver striping on the windshield pillars. But the passenger seat appears to tilt forward rather than upwards, hmmm I wonder what its for? Perhaps somebody is gonna ride in the back seat? Hmmm.

heh, i wouldn't go playing with the ejector seat much..from the looks of it, the seat seems to rub on the windshield frame...before long, there'll be scratches cos of it.

although, i doubt it would be rubbing on the frame as surely, ertl wouldn't create that much of a bad design?

Yup that's an ejector seat. But instead of ejecting the passenger through the roof, it will bash his head on the windshield pillar, ouch!! But its a great KITT replica, I can't wait to get my clammy hands on it.

I asked the guy who posted them if he has any more pics - hoping so. I've also got some other shots I've not seen online from Tokyo, but as they aren't mine, I can't upload them.

OK, last time....THEY'RE THE SAME CAR!!!! Ertl is shipping to Aoshima, who will box them in the Asian box. The car, complete and painted, will come from Ertl. Aoshima is just sticking them in their own boxes so the Asian market can read it.

That's what the products manager meant.."shipping worldwide.."

I agree

Post by corlando52 » Tue Nov 02, 2004 3:51 pm

I agree! I can't wait, either!! I might end up buying 2 so I can do some modifications on one. I'd like to try and light up the dash. I also have a schematic that THEORICALLY will create the tracer effect of the scanner using LEDs.

In the pic I have in my email, you can see one light (on the scanner) lit up, with the light next door trailing, so I don't think the model will need any modification in that area.

How do you plan to illuminate the dash? Fibre optics? They will take up quite alot of space - will you remove the engine?
