'Knight Rider' movie begins to step on the accelerator
From the LA Times

Seeing as the Weinstein Co has brought onboard Brad Copeland to pen a draft script, does anyone here think the possible feature film could be gaining some traction?

It has gained and lost traction many times before, but this is certainly the most tangible news we have heard in quite some time so let's keep our hopes up and fingers crossed! Thanks for posting!

Maybe this time it'll actually happen... you never know.
I wouldn't touch that one with a ten-foot drive shaft!

Wasn't Glen seen talking about his already made script at a Knightcon a half a decade ago?

Re: 'Knight Rider' movie begins to step on the accelerator
Well, looks like old times of visiting Knight Rider Online for news about new movie/show are back. Been waiting for it for so long. Best birthday present ever. I just hope it won't be a flop and will be more action movie than comedy. But comedy is a must they just have to not overdo it. I would like to see Gabriel Macht as Michael Knight, i really like him in Suits, his serious look and humor combination is very likeable.

Re: 'Knight Rider' movie begins to step on the accelerator
This does worry me some! Just thinking about all the other reboots/remakes and it makes me nervous. I think I would require Copeland to watch the complete series before taking pen to paper just to get the feel of the original show. It wasn't all about action and amazing feats that the car can do. There needs to be 'heart' in the movie. As for KITT I would like to see a completely new body built with resemblances of the original, but is not made from a production car.

Trivia Question:
Brad Copeland was a producer for Arrested Development. There are at least 2 other connections between Knight Rider and Arrested Development. What are they?

It's Jason Bateman, but yes... that's the first one. The other is trickier, I'll give hints after a while if it's not answered.

Re: 'Knight Rider' movie begins to step on the accelerator
"The question for Copeland is how to craft a new car (the show’s KITT was renowned for its ability to talk) in an era when much of what KITT could do can be handled by Siri or a garden-variety iPhone."
I remember this statement being made a lot when the 2008 series was in production. Yes, most cars have the ability to "talk" and offer navigation directions and such, but you can't carry on a conversation with your Siri and have Siri respond back with a thought out answer. The "heart" of KITT is what separates him from what all of the modern cars can do.

I don't get that statement. A lot of what KITT can do an iPhone can't.knightfever wrote:"The question for Copeland is how to craft a new car (the show’s KITT was renowned for its ability to talk) in an era when much of what KITT could do can be handled by Siri or a garden-variety iPhone."
I tried to sit on my iPhone and jump over a semi...didn't work!
I asked my iPhone to rig a casino game so I can win...didn't work!
I was at a beach house with my girlfriend and a remote control airplane filled with explosives was coming right at me, I asked my iPhone to cover me...didn't work!
So, Wilton Knight's miracle car will still wow audiences today!

Re: 'Knight Rider' movie begins to step on the accelerator
The only good thing Copeland has ever done is six episodes of Arrested Development. The rest of his resume includes inane, mindless nonsense such as Wild Hogs and Coffee Town which he is directing. I don't think he is a good choice for a Knight Rider movie which I believe should have humor but for the most part be serious, kind of like the recent Batman movies.

Re: 'Knight Rider' movie begins to step on the accelerator
I think all of us are a little concerned about the film being a flat-out comedy. But I think going the serious Batman route is going to far. It goes against the spirit of the original series.I say, go the Avengers/Iron Man route: lots of comedy, but it's still primarily an action film.
And let's not get too far ahead ourselves just yet. We really don't have any solid information at all about the movie. (Of course, speculation is half the fun of the forum so don't let me stop you!)

Re: 'Knight Rider' movie begins to step on the accelerator
By "serious" I mean the movie should be some what believable just like Batman Begins and Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises kind of went overboard with way too much going on and became incoherent. The camp and cheese worked well for the original but it wont work today, if they follow the Avengers/Iron Man route then the KR movie will simply become another summer movie that people watch once and then forget about because it will have no re-watch value.Michael Pajaro wrote:I think all of us are a little concerned about the film being a flat-out comedy. By all means have humor and a few mega action sequences but keep it real enough that when people see it some part of them believes that perhaps an eccentric billionaire could build a machine like KITT. In my opinion the first two Nolan Batmans did that very well, that an extremely rich person could with all the resources at their disposal dress up as bat and punish criminals.

Well Man Of Steel did good i mean Superman is about a alien baby coming here and growing up to be earth's savor. It said in The Christopher Reeve version about it made us believe a man can fly

Re: 'Knight Rider' movie begins to step on the accelerator
It will still possibly take years before we see it on the silver screen. Movies go through different script writers all the time, a process which can take a very long while.
But I don't want any slapstick comedy stuff a'la Starsky and Hutch. If they go that route then I am out.

Wasn't Warner Bros. the one a few years ago that wanted no talking K.I.T.T. in a proposed KR movie?
And when things appeared to get better, they got worse, and everyday was a day to cry.

I believe that was Revolution Studios back in the early 2000's that wanted a KITT that didn't speak.tharpdevenport wrote:Wasn't Warner Bros. the one a few years ago that wanted no talking K.I.T.T. in a proposed KR movie?
Man Of Steel has really polarized the audience, people either love it or hate. My opinion is that it is a horrible movie, it didn't even feel like a Superman movie, more like a Michael Bay Transformers destruction fest with Superman thrown in there.AppleMacri1980 wrote:Well Man Of Steel did good i mean Superman is about a alien baby coming here and growing up to be earth's savor. its so hard being a Knight Rider fan at times...
I direct you back to the 2 games Davilex made, it got really exciting only to be left flat by the end result..
And if a Knight Rider movie is ever going to be reality, its been so many years in the making, so much talk about it etc etc...
Well lets just say, its going to have to be better than awesome to please most of us..

I hope it's done right. As long as the car doesn't transform. That was to me what ruined the 2008 series.

Personally, I would be satisfied with a movie similar to "Stealth". That movie had a talking airplane, with mainly action, drama, and a lil comedy. I just hope they don't overdo it. (and have a GOOD KITT voice....if William Daniels can't do it Eugene Levy!!!)

Re: 'Knight Rider' movie begins to step on the accelerator
They need to get somebody who knows what there doing for this type of movie. I don't think were going to get a big budget batman style movie here. I'm thinking or hoping it's something along the lines of The A-Team. Kinda dark, kinda humerous, and somewhat familiar to the origional. As long as we don't have any transforming cars I'm ok with it.
