Re: Val Kilmers voice in premier
I agree, Kilmer is much better here although I'm still not sold on the voice modulator. Yes, I saw it on iTunes HD but I think it's too busy.
I believe most people who don't care for Kilmer want/expect this car to be more like the Knight 2000, with a bit of that sarcastic tone than William Daniels did so incredibly well. But this is NOT the Knight 2000. It is a completely different character. And they're promising us that KI3T will evolve, and that Kilmer's voice will evolve with it, which when you think about it is a pretty challenging job for a voice actor. How do you say "OK, this week we need you to be 10% more human." I suspect that after seeing the season finale, we'll go back and watch the premiere again and notice a big difference, and that's where we'll get the pay-off. Well, actually we'll get the pay-off week after week as we watch (hear) KITT grow.

Re: Val Kilmers voice in premier
What are those producers messing up with? It's not Val's job that sucks. Listen to him when he is speaking from behind the tunnel gate.....you know, when there is a special effect added to his voice. That's all he needs.
Why didn't we hear that in the premier? And why the hell are we still hearing the ringing sound effect with the scanner? You know, as much as I'm going to not get any agreements on these boards, the ringing sound effect does seem to work a lot better than the WOOSH WOOSH sound effect. I have my doubts they will get the sync to the speed of the actual lights from moving in and out correct.

Micheal - I do like the new vox but everytime I watch it I too think it's a bit too busy. You have to strain hard to see the 3-bar and it doesn't seem to sync too well with the voice. But I'm glad it's there to start with. They should do away with the ghosting effect and the sine-wave lines, IMHO.
I think Val Kilmer did great voice work in this. Though they could have added some reverb and bass to make it more like a real car stereo. But I think he makes a great KITT.
KITT sure is a different character, but still very much like a young newly-minted AI car and still just as humorous.
Especially when he was asking Michael that very personal question and then right after KITT slams the brakes plastering Micheal against the steering wheel. Almost as if a faint hint of payback. LOL!

Re: Val Kilmers voice in premier
Dont they carry on working on the episodes right up until the last minute?
I was just thinking that the tv version might differ from the early preview, perhaps what they said about raising the dialog track and balancing the audio volume ,they might add some reverb to Kilmer?

Some of the CGI is apparently going to be tweaked some by the time it airs.
The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great!

There were two times, I know I missed the first one that happened at 1 pm Pacific time, they came in again around 8 pm when we were all watching the movie in sync together.
Until we totally weirded them out with our dorkyness that is.
Thanks for dropping in VFX team!

hehe, was funny though, I think some of the dorkyness could be attributed to our exitement levels, it was quite a buzz to see the new show!

Re: Val Kilmers voice in premier
When I heard Will Arnett's take on KI3T, I thought it REALLY fit with the car and show's new personality: More attitude and aggressiveness. Based on all the commercials I saw, it meshed perfectly. His voice was deeper than Val's and Daniels' and I really liked that.
Val's voice is right between Daniels' and Arnett's in terms of pitch, I'm guessing that is not a coincidence on the casting side of things.
But it didn't sit right with me in the beginning (still doesn't to be wholly honest).
But anyone else voicing KITT now would just be weird. Heck, I didn't even like Daniels' voice when I first heard it. Now, I can't imagine KI2T without him. And it's pretty much already the same way with Val. For better or worse, he IS KITT.
I'm not a purist in the sense where every little thing they change from the original I get bent out of shape about like some here. In fact, the more new things they introduce, the more I'm inclined to watch it (If I wanted to watch the old episodes or remakes of the old episodes... I'd pop in the DVDs). This is a new Knight Rider, and I fully accept it. Val and all.
Good luck, "Buddy."

If it's the voice I think you're talking about then that wasn't Arnett, it was one of the two place holder voices.

Re: Val Kilmers voice in premier
I quite like Val's voice in this first episode. Agreed that it sounds more polished that the February pilot.
My only criticism, and this may be down to the mix on the iTunes HD release, my PC setup, my ears
, or combination of at all, but I've noticed that in some scenes, it doesn't 'feel' like it's the car that is talking.
Example - check out the scene where KI3T is being detained, pre-turbo boost - he speaks to the bad guys. It sounds 'too clean' especially when mixed with the 'whoosh-whoosh' of the scanner. Compare that to a later mix where Michael is about to pick up the package - after Michael leaves the vehicle, KI3T's voice does appear to be coming from the car, when he warns Michael to "Be careful.."
I guess this'll get better as the series progresses

Re: Val Kilmers voice in premier
Yeah, it does sound more like someone talking over the video instead of it coming from the car, it would probably help if they focused more on a KITT's uhhh "voice modulator" while he spoke like in the original series. They need to work on the scanner sound effect too and maybe use it a bit less or more in line with how it was used in the original series. I still dunno if I like that effect for the dual scanner.... Even with it somehow being synced, the new KITT looks like he has two scanners.

The commercials for movie back in Feb, before Will had to step down. Those weren't him? Certainly sounded like it.PHOENIXZERO wrote: If it's the voice I think you're talking about then that wasn't Arnett, it was one of the two place holder voices.
