For those of you who argue that the world is darker today, I suggest you see the great hit "High School Musical", which shows a whole other world which is just as real. It's uncalled for, doesn't move the story and sends the wrong message to the target demographic. Knight Rider was never a sophisticated adult show. That's why HBO is out there for those that want that sort of ilk.
The commercials for the show aired at times when children would see the preview. The previews featured a fancy car...something that appealed to my five year old. There was no mature/adult theme warning before the airing, so I remain steadfast in my position.
Am I the only one who saw red when I read those lines....
High School Musical....I'm gonna go say
NO. Not even
remotely comparable to what was suppose to be a semi-serious show. High School Musical was an overtly
DISNEY production and therefore is/was understood to be for a younger audience. Quite frankly, I could find fault with shows like it and Hannah Montana for that matter, just as easily as you can find fault with the new KR. The Knight Rider promos never made any indication that it was show that would be "okay" for kids. If you went off the basis that: Hey, the car looks cool and my five year old likes cool cars...without even looking to see what the rating was before hand...I'm sorry, but that's your fault. It's never a good thing to assume
anything in a
primetime/late evening slot is safe for children to watch. Unless it's Nick, Disney, or cartoon network and even that station has a time slot for "adults", hence the title "adult swim". I'm not defending the two scenes in question, but I will point out that there are many flaws in your logic. CSI, Law & Order, Vegas and House also air promos during times when kids might see them, are you going to let a five year old watch them too? Also,
please, the show was no where in the same league as HBO for sexual scenes.
Edit:
@quote neps
~"You did NOT just compare Knight Rider to High School Musical? Seriously?
I can't remember spontaneously breaking into song at my High School, but it has been over 10 years, so maybe I blocked that out."
People die every day. People are flawed individuals. Knight Rider showed more reality than High School Musical could ever. To sugar coat the world isn't doing anyone justice." ~
Thank God...I'm not alone. End Edit.
Also, there was a warning, it was in the corner of the screen in bold white/yellow letters. If you didn't take any notice of it, or missed it, there were other ways to find out the rating. Networks make the ratings available online as well for a reason, as someone stated earlier: Parents need to learn them. The warning was readily available from show info buttons and the tv guide channel, I just checked on my recording.
Secondly, this is a board for Knight Rider fans, not a sounding board for anti-gay, anti-television violence, etc...If you're not a fan of the new show, fine. If you're still a fan of the old show, by all means stay and contribute to the community in a productive manner on other parts of the board. If you're a fan of both,
fantastic! If you're not a fan
period, you probably don't need to be here at all. People need to keep in mind that this was a 2-hour tv movie that was testing the waters to see if KR might be able to make it as a series once more. This one "episode/pilot" does not show the
entire direction the series might take. Did it test waters that might have thrown the original fan base a bit, sure, but as many have stated it's the year 2008, not 1982. If people were wanting the
ORIGINAL show all over again, that's pretty insane and unfair to the new cast.
Thirdly, as someone said earlier, this topic is completely beating a dead horse. All this moaning and groaning about two 3 minute scenes is well beyond the point of ridiculous. No one is going to be able to change anyone else's mind on this matter. As a board, I think everyone gets that some if not many people didn't like the new show 100%. I think we also get that some of the posters in this thread most definitely didn't like the show at all, we get that some people don't care either way, we get that some of you will never watch it, and we also get that some people are on the fence about the whole thing. There are also people who enjoyed the show even with these two scenes, considering how quickly they were gone. I think for the most part people understand those positions. All we're doing is arguing and it's
pointless. This has gone well beyond being about Knight Rider and has turned into a fight about parenting styles, sexual orientation, and a conspiracy theory surrounding Ford advertising. I bet Pontiac did advertising during the original run of Knight Rider....whoop-di-doo.
