why did they use model cars for some scenes in knightrider, this just made the programme look cheap and tacky, they should have thought of some other way to give it a realistic veiwing

they did have a specific ammount of money to work with back then...i would say that back then the alotted amount of money they had to spend with would have been about $10,000 per episode maybe more or less i dont know for sure though cuz i was a kid back then also. ;)

All down to budget I suspect, they don't have a budget of a All Action Hollywood movie you know.

if they used a real t/a to go in the acid pit junkyard dog would have lost basically all there budget so it was better to use a model but on the train line where you get a close up of the crappy model scanner with these white lines and a little red light (possibly from a torch) moving.

Also alot of the Turbo Boost that KITT performed were virtually impossible or too dangerous for a stunt man to perform in a Trans AM, such as Turbo Boosting over a helicopter while it hovers over a 50 foot gorge. Which meant the car had to not only jump over the chopper but jump the gorge too. Hey Homer Simpson tried it with Bart's skateboard look what happened to him lol.

Believe it or not models are used a lot of times in movies to perform stunts that would too dangerous or costly. A lot of the times you can't even tell you're looking at scale models. It all comes down to filming techiques. How realistic they look all depends on how the scene is filmed. In my opinion, night shots work best.

KITT: "No. I'm a tight end for the Chicago Bears!"

the knight rider models were 100% better than the dukes of hazzard models used in the 7th season of DoH

so be happy they at least (for the most part) used good models, even if they did slip up every once in a while like thie pic below from one of my favorite knight rider scenes
