To be frank, no. They could have gotten the point across by having Traceur in bed with one woman and Rivai in bed with a man she had just met the night before. Would that somehow have been more acceptable? Considering your (apparently) anti-gay mentality, it seems like it.
maverik wrote:As a parent, I was really looking forward to watching this with my kids.
I applaud you for screening what your kids watch beforehand. A lot of parents don't get that involved. That said, I think you were being a bit unrealistic expecting a show put on NBC in the 9-11pm timeslot to be appropriate for children. This is the same slot shows like "Las Vegas" and "Law and Order" are shown, not exactly kids fare IMO.
maverik wrote:...morale decline (homosexuality, promiscuity, prostitutions, etc)
Aaaaand here we go. See, you're equating homosexuality with prostitution when the two do not belong in the same category. One is illegal (in most states), the other is not. Prostitution is not a "chosen lifestyle", it is the last bastion of some who are desperate and others who are forced into the situation via sexual slavery (among other reasons). Homosexuality is a lifestyle (I will let others more knowledgable than myself argue if it's chosen or genetic). Just because you are homosexual, it does not make you immoral. I have many gay friends and they are law abiding, loving, hard working people - in other words: they're good human beings. Such statements will draw ire as they come across as judgemental and ill informed.
Troglodad wrote:Tell Nickelodean or the Disney Channel that. You know, the next time they have lesbians, threesomes and maybe some manboy luvin' going on after school. My point: it's not acceptable for children to see this kind of thing. Ever. They're kids.
Up to a point, I'll agree with you on this. However, I should point out that there is a rating system in place for these shows AND it was shown in a relatively late time slot on purpose. The implication by being put in that slot is that it is not necesarily family oriented programming. I'm quite sure the demographic this show was aimed at are young males 18 and up.
Troglodad wrote:No matter what, the majority of the midwest at least, will always think homosexuality is immoral.
You can think that homosexuality is immoral all you want. However, equating it with illegal activity such as child pornography (which violates the child and is illegal) is incorrect. That is not a matter of opinion, that is a matter of law.

I've been away from this board for a long time and I guess I'm just reeling from the vast amounts of bashing that's currently going on. So I'm just going to say what I need to and leave it at that, in all reality, when was KR ever a KIDS show? I'm a little tired of people saying it SHOULD be a kid's show. I mean I know a lot of us watched it as kids, but I don't believe it was really AIMED specifically at kids. Michael Knight was with a new woman every single week and it was more than a little implied that he ended up sleeping with most of them. That being said, I don't see why people are angry about the scene with Tracer and the two women. I'll reiterate what almost every longstanding member of this board and fans of the original show have said: They were trying to show him as a womanizer just like his father. Sure, I suppose they could have done it a better way, but they didn't and what's done is done. Also, and not to discredit your opinion, the show was rated at TV-PG...NOT suitable for five year olds, so I'm not sure what small children would even be doing watch it in the first place. That being said, if you all don't want to watch it, don't watch it if it gets picked up and certainly don't let your children watch it, if that's what you want. However, don't sit there and call those that watched it for what it was (a two-hour made for tv movie), immoral just because they were able to get through two scenes that lasted all of 3 minutes each that you weren't. The pilot itself had a lot of flaws, and I absolutely love the original series more than this pilot, but this new show was pretty flippin' tame compared to House or CSI. It is the year 2008, not 1982, and times be a changin', like it or not.

The show will either succeed and become a series, or it will fail and we will be left waiting for the next reincarnation of this show...if there is one. Whether or not you choose to watch it is up to you. Also, from what I recall of this boards rules, many of you newcomers have stepped well out of line in regards to how to speak about a person's sexuality, be it a fictional character or another member of this board.

Just from what i read here to sum it up I dont think its the gay vs straight thing, etc. I think its how its placed in the story its almost impossible to explain to a child if they ask because it makes no sense. If you want to have a lesbian cool. One way is to have the other woman her girlfriend, where you see a connection of some sort between them.

Threesome, it wasn't that bad. To kids it might look like slumber party I guess. especially in that tiny bed. Did it add to his character? No it didn't.

Also to address some here yes knight Rider was a kids show. who is going to buy those blueprints of kit, they were advertising after the show or the toys, lunch boxes etc? Mabe some grown ups will, but for the most part kids.

Children are far brighter than we were at that age, but I think a show like this if it wants to open the doors to show different lifestyles then be responsible and show it in a tasteful relevant way.

There were toys/lunchboxes/etc for the movie Alien(s) when it came out too, does that make it suitable movie for small children to watch? I'm thinking not. Knight Rider had the "cool" factor, and kids ate it up, hence why things like the blueprints and such were bought. I don't think anyone here EVER said kids didn't watch Knight Rider, it's just that it wasn't the TARGET audience. Just as five year olds or anyone under the age of 12 was NOT the target audience for this show. If anyone can provide us with evidence otherwise I'd love to see it, please.

I think what people are saying is that the show is rated PG, it's advertised as having language, sexual themes, and violence, as well as shown at a time when most children are probably in bed. The networks do this for a reason, so they can avoid parents who might not want their kids watching it/accidentally seeing it. Now granted, there's going to be kids that see it anyway and parents like the ones that have currently flooded this board, upset by it. Were the scenes lacking, yeah, what people are getting angry about right now are the attacks on sexual preference and the preaching that some newcomers have started doing. The board has very specific and very well written rules that address what's allowed here and what's not, also the repercussions for not obeying those rules.

If you didn't like the scenes, it's your right to find fault with them, but in line with the forums rules, you are NOT allowed to flame people and it needs to stop. Everyone has a right to their own opinion as stated earlier, but there are RULES, new people please read them. This entire thread has gotten way out of hand and I have a feeling the moderators are going to be pretty busy in the morning :(

@goldbug

Thanks for your intelligent response. I do appreciate it.

Pornography is legal, I'm guilty of indulging, but that doesn't make it moral or right.

Increased homosexuality, promiscuity, prostitution, etc is all lumped together when speaking about moral decline. More generalized: sexual immorality and crime so there is an indirect correlation.

I did not mean to equate homosexuality with prostitution; however, i can see how that can be interpreted from what i wrote. I am equating homosexuality to sexual immorality though.

Going back to my original point, violence, guns, etc are justified being necessary to progress the story and plot.

And for me at least, children can understand the dynamics of those situations and are easier to explain.

I do agree that the new KR series is not appropriate for children and that is what has disappointed me.

knightny wrote:You know what is truly unneccessary? (And forgive me if this has been said already). You people have such a hard time viewing a woman in another womans bed. You have a hard time with a guy in bed with two women.......

But I have yet to hear the same people mention the guns, the hand to hand combat (violence), Jennifer's death that showed blood and gambling.....You also forget to mention how in the old series Michael Knight was with a different chick in every episode. Yet somehow KITT asking Mike Traceur if he is gay is such a tragedy.

It wasn't necessary and shocked me when I first saw it but this is a new generation of KR for a different, more darker world as is what today truly is.

And that stuff was all gone within the first 5 mins.

What bothers me more than Lesbians or Threesomes (which doesn't) is the Gun violence. Don't get me wrong, I think both of them were needed in the movie - but I'd be more concerned and cover my child's eyes more to see someone being shot at, then to see someone in bed.

You're reading too deeply into how children perceive things. If you curse in front of a child, they wont repeat it until you draw attention to it. If you said, Oh my gosh I shouldn't have said that, they will most likely repeat it - but if you ignore it or play it off - they wont care.

Similar too with Mike in bed with two women. You know all about sex - they don't. My kid plays around with boys and girls in their bed and his room - it's innocent. It's only till you tell your child that it's dirty do they think that it's something else.

But if you see a lifeless body covered in blood? There is nothing but one reason for that - and that will scare and scar a child much more than people laying in bed together.

Yeah I agree, sex is natural and if you explain it to your kids it will be fine. Regardless if somebody is gay or it is up to you, but its natural and we all do it and have to but violence is not. There is no excuse for violence other than to hurt somebody

OMG seriously? seriously?!?! seriously???? is this what you fixating on... earth to you guys!!! It's the 21st Centuary maybe over here in the uk it's a little different, but for gawd sake. I'm not a biggot, but why some americans foucs on this stuff and act all out raged is beyond me. Besides wasn't it past the watershed anyways.... that's grown up tv time anyways so those of you mentioning about your kids seeing that stuff... well guess what they should be in bed or at least not watching tv at that time of night, because most shows contain sexual nature at that time of night. Besides u scared it's gona give hte kiddies ideas ;) As for pushing the Lesbian thing, why the hell is it pushing it... at the end of the day the girl is just having and living her life, did i miss the memo were fictional characters are not allowed to be gay. It's not as if she was flaunting it or anything.

I just don't get it, people really need to be a little more laid back about things are that are going on.... its not as if you going with a lassie or a guy unless secretly what ur annoyed about is cause ur really interested ;) ooo look whats going on there what am i missing :P   :kitt:

FORD will appeal to anything to get out of the black....that's what happens when you're down and nearly out!

Like I've stated....These execs needed to appeal to anything dirty to get those demographic ratings up, that's their choice. HERE we have a total loser representing the main star of the show....an ex military officer with a huge gambling problem and hairdo to match with any woman in bed. A black FBI agent sleeping with a younger white woman. What a good way to represent the slutty stars and today's Knight Rider (rolling eyes). I'll just wait till a highly impressionable 18 year goes "ooohhhh, you love knight rider, so do I" then gets knocked up OR a lesbian gets suspended or expelled from work or school for kissing.

What a slap in the face to the old original KR fans. Michael Knight was a well groomed police officer with honor and dignity. At least the brunette was classy, til she kissed Jason the loser. OH, I'm sorry, that's what classy 2008 women do too!

Thirded.

I didn't even *care* about the scenes in question. The REST of the show was what got my attention. The scenes in question were so insignificant and only a tiny TINY portion of the WHOLE movie that I really would have missed it if people weren't harping on it so much.

I agree that people really need to pay attention to the ratings. That is what ratings are for.

I remain appalled by the heinous murder, swearing and casual sex of this show. For those of you who argue that the world is darker today, I suggest you see the great hit "High School Musical", which shows a whole other world which is just as real. It's uncalled for, doesn't move the story and sends the wrong message to the target demographic. Knight Rider was never a sophisticated adult show. That's why HBO is out there for those that want that sort of ilk.

The commercials for the show aired at times when children would see the preview. The previews featured a fancy car...something that appealed to my five year old. There was no mature/adult theme warning before the airing, so I remain steadfast in my position.

It may surprise you on the left coast, but we watch prime time programming at 8PM in the Midwest. Since it wasn't a school night, many children were allowed to watch this program.

Since this was basically a Ford infomercial, I remain shocked that the executives and their agency let this through.

As a 5 time Ford owner, I am ready to switch.

Another one. Are you serious I am so tired of going over this over and over. I have watched it like four times and now don't even pay attention to those minuscule scences that last for a few seconds in the beginning and than forgotten about. Oh so hideous right. First again there are worse out there your kids watch like the Simpsons and the jackass sequel bams show on mtv how about south park do you know how many preteens watched that. Give me a break how about WWE with all the innuendos and women scantly clad how a bout shows like NYPD on cbs that shows nudity on national television. Please all you protectors of the children of the world grip about real problems affecting are children not some tv show that didn't show any nudity or sex but your perverted minds take it there. I am tired of the self righteous spew and by the way FORD had nothing to do with the writing of the script it's an automobile company. So your going to get rid of your car over a few seconds in a tv show written by a tv writer real mature good going so next time dodge or chevy does anything for a show and i don't like it ,i am going to sell all my cars sounds real smart doesn't it.

You did NOT just compare Knight Rider to High School Musical? Seriously?

I can't remember spontaneously breaking into song at my High School, but it has been over 10 years, so maybe I blocked that out.

People die every day. People are flawed individuals. Knight Rider showed more reality than High School Musical could ever. To sugar coat the world isn't doing anyone justice.

I was totally disappointed when I saw the threesome and lesbian scenes in the KR movie, whatever happened to family values. Who did NBC think would want to watch this movie? The answer is all of the past fans along with their kids. I cannot believe how far TV is trying to push the envelope!! NBC would not have dreamed about putting this crap on TV back in the 80's. What will we see on TV in the next 10 to 20 years are we going to see them in the actual act! I think that TV today is way over the line and it is going to keep getting worse!!!

Am I the only one who saw red when I read those lines....

High School Musical....I'm gonna go say NO. Not even remotely comparable to what was suppose to be a semi-serious show. High School Musical was an overtly DISNEY production and therefore is/was understood to be for a younger audience. Quite frankly, I could find fault with shows like it and Hannah Montana for that matter, just as easily as you can find fault with the new KR. The Knight Rider promos never made any indication that it was show that would be "okay" for kids. If you went off the basis that: Hey, the car looks cool and my five year old likes cool cars...without even looking to see what the rating was before hand...I'm sorry, but that's your fault. It's never a good thing to assume anything in a primetime/late evening slot is safe for children to watch. Unless it's Nick, Disney, or cartoon network and even that station has a time slot for "adults", hence the title "adult swim". I'm not defending the two scenes in question, but I will point out that there are many flaws in your logic. CSI, Law & Order, Vegas and House also air promos during times when kids might see them, are you going to let a five year old watch them too? Also, please, the show was no where in the same league as HBO for sexual scenes.

Edit:

@quote neps

~"You did NOT just compare Knight Rider to High School Musical? Seriously?

I can't remember spontaneously breaking into song at my High School, but it has been over 10 years, so maybe I blocked that out."

People die every day. People are flawed individuals. Knight Rider showed more reality than High School Musical could ever. To sugar coat the world isn't doing anyone justice." ~

Thank God...I'm not alone. End Edit.

Also, there was a warning, it was in the corner of the screen in bold white/yellow letters. If you didn't take any notice of it, or missed it, there were other ways to find out the rating. Networks make the ratings available online as well for a reason, as someone stated earlier: Parents need to learn them. The warning was readily available from show info buttons and the tv guide channel, I just checked on my recording.

Secondly, this is a board for Knight Rider fans, not a sounding board for anti-gay, anti-television violence, etc...If you're not a fan of the new show, fine. If you're still a fan of the old show, by all means stay and contribute to the community in a productive manner on other parts of the board. If you're a fan of both, fantastic! If you're not a fan period, you probably don't need to be here at all. People need to keep in mind that this was a 2-hour tv movie that was testing the waters to see if KR might be able to make it as a series once more. This one "episode/pilot" does not show the entire direction the series might take. Did it test waters that might have thrown the original fan base a bit, sure, but as many have stated it's the year 2008, not 1982. If people were wanting the ORIGINAL show all over again, that's pretty insane and unfair to the new cast.

Thirdly, as someone said earlier, this topic is completely beating a dead horse. All this moaning and groaning about two 3 minute scenes is well beyond the point of ridiculous. No one is going to be able to change anyone else's mind on this matter. As a board, I think everyone gets that some if not many people didn't like the new show 100%. I think we also get that some of the posters in this thread most definitely didn't like the show at all, we get that some people don't care either way, we get that some of you will never watch it, and we also get that some people are on the fence about the whole thing. There are also people who enjoyed the show even with these two scenes, considering how quickly they were gone. I think for the most part people understand those positions. All we're doing is arguing and it's pointless. This has gone well beyond being about Knight Rider and has turned into a fight about parenting styles, sexual orientation, and a conspiracy theory surrounding Ford advertising. I bet Pontiac did advertising during the original run of Knight Rider....whoop-di-doo.

Are you kidding? This happened every day. I remember one time in shop class when I was getting ready to fix up this car to race. "Greased Lightning" we called it, yessiree. Bunch of us danced and sang - all before lunch! Darndest thing though, I got slammed in the head by accident so my buddy Danny had to drive instead. He won though so it's ok.

You know......all this acceptance of KR gay brings new meaning to the commercials of when new KITT was constantly jealous of Jason's female date. The original KITT was pure man as "you go Michael". LMAO!!!!

I have to stop myself from laughing as I read some of these posts. I think it is funny how serious some people are taking this debate. Yes I didn't like the scenes in question but for other reasons then mentioned. I am a 24 year old male and can appreciate a beautiful women now and then. And yes sometimes I do watch naughty videos on occassion. Who can really say they never did? I am of age and if thats what I want to do its my choice and right. Back on point, I didn't like the threesome scene just because I felt it overplayed Michaels charater. Yes Knight was a ladies man and the original series did not try to hide that although they didn't have to go to such extremes to show it. Yes knight would spend a night in a womens home but it never showed them in bed, for all we know they could have been playing cards or adjusting the suspenision for a dune bug race the next day. lol. I think the same point could have been gotten across in a different kinda of way. The scene with the FBI agent made me sick. Not because she was a lesbian, (remember I am a 24 year old man) I think it just set the pace for what was an aweful character in the movie that I hope never returns. As soon as I saw that scene I knew she would be the bad butt female cop that kicks butt every scene, knows it all and shoots first asks questions later. I think this scene was adeuquate in getting that picture across but I also have to agree with a previous poster that it mights as well have flashed in big capital letters across the screen, Hey look I am a lesbian and a tough chick whos gonna kick butt and rule the world. If they were just trying to show that she lived an alternative lifestyle and was a lesbian I feel they could have done it in a more subtle way. Once again I do not hate lesbians, or gays or anything like that. I feel whatever someone wants to do is there buisiness as long as they don't try to press it on me. Also I do not have any kids and don't plan on it so I will not leave any comments on that topic but the fact that I do agree that the original KR could be viewed by most age groups while this is just a little edgier than the original. The scene with the clerk didn't really bother me too much as it didn't actually show the clerk get shot. The original KR did show Michale getting shot but with little to no blood. Seems about the same to me. Either way I will be watching this when and if a series ever comes out. I think whether you liked or hated the new KR movie, as fellow KR fans we should really appreciate that it was even made at all.
