The tune is Proud Mary, originally preformed by Tina Truner.

I thought the original version was Creedence Clearwater Revival...but come to think of it, I don't know if they performed it first. I do know that John Fogerty (CCR's lead singer) wrote the song though. I like their version a lot better than Tina Turner's version though, regardless of who performed it first. However, Knight Rider didn't use either version, it was a cover just like all of the other songs in the series. That's happened before with other songs too. John Denver wrote the song "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and then gave it to Peter, Paul, and Mary to do first, and then later recorded his own version.

Probably to save money, I'd imagine. It's cheaper for them to get the rights to do a cover than to use the original song.

Proud mary is a CCR original written by J. Fogerty. It was released in 1969 on Bayou Country.
