Coin Operated Knight Rider car???
Hey guys.. I was out christmas shopping and found THIS at the local Kmart!! I have no idea how long it has been there, I've never really noticed it before but it was MY SON that pointed it out!

Check it out and tell me if that is a repainted KITT or not! Good thing I had my digi-cam with me!
Boy, I'd love to take that home, repaint it black with a red scanner and let my 4 yr old have a blast!!! Anyone out there know how much these go for?

Heh...I once drove down to the border of Mexico looking for one of those...un-altered. (No luck.)
That one looks like it's mainly just a paint job alteration...which isn't so bad. But, I do wonder if that is the original dash and wheel. What ashame, if so.
Of course, I kind of like the flame paint job they did with that one. Makes me wonder what KITT *could* have looked like with other paint jobs besides basic black. ("KITT" red wasn't so bad. (But, "KIFT" red WAS!) Although, show star stars and third world coverings didn't look very fitting. Still, I am now curious as to how well some of the other color options might have looked)
Excellent find, by the way.

actually, i wonder if it would have been better had KIFT had a different colour scanner other than red. i mean, the whole body is red so they could have changed the colour of the scanner to make it a bit more colourful.
i mean, even KITT had a black body work and a red scanner so that was at least mixed up a bit.

I remember one of these coin operated KITT cars in it's original black
with a "toyish" variation of KITT's original dash, only with four large
colored buttons, to represent Turbo Boost, Ski-Mode, Pursuit and
power, plus a static three bar voice mod, with one flickering red
light bulb behind it, to represent KITT's voice when it "spoke".
Although the rather electronic voice used was Spanish, as this coin-
operated KITT was on the Spanish owned Canary Island of Tenerife.
I remember putting a 25 peseta coin in, and it played the original KR
theme for about 30 secs, complete with sound FX for Turbo Boost and
the scanner. I couldn't get into the car itself, as I was 19 years old, and
would have looked somewhat silly, squeezing myself into this mini-KITT!

At a local Pamida, which I believe was once a K-Mart, across the river from me in good ole Louisa, KY, there remains an old KITT coin operated ride, which I never noticed till a few years ago, because it was painted white, with disgusting purple and lavender trim. Ugh! I think it still works...I was a teenager, so I resisted the temptation. I didn't take any pics....maybe I'll go do that some day. I think/hope it's still there. Probably is, since few things change swiftly in Louisa, Ky.

Here's how the original KITT ride looked, and one in Long Beach California that has been converted into a fire car.

Yeah, I've nearly forgotten that this Knight Rider coin cars existed.
But when I saw this thread...
Many years ago, when I was still a boy, I have been to holiday in Spain, and there was one of those coin cars. It was a long way from my hotel to the car's place, but I went there as often as I could. I was fascinated by the lamps and the lights and the sound of the car, and it was talking as well.
Huh, for a short time I felt like the boy again, just seeing this pic. I have some photo of me and the coin car somewhere, but I coudn't find it.
Why I write this? I'm just happy these thread reminded me of some ecxiting days.
Merry Christmas everyone!!
