The Original KR Toys...

Post by KnightCrusader99 » Mon Jan 31, 2005 10:36 pm

You have got to be kidding me... check out these auctions on eBay for original KR toys....

Is that a 2nd Gen Camaro or T/A? I can't really tell. I know it is not right though. (Even though the box has the right car.)

That is just a stock T/A toy that had a scanner molded to the front. They didn't even bother to take the firebird off the back, or black out the tail lights.

I guess the marketers and manufactured back then thought that the public wouldn't notice the difference. I know that is not the case now a days with hard core fans like us.

I just thought those were funny and would bring them up to anyones attention who did not know they existed.

The reason why some early 1982 Knight Rider toys are lacking in detail is that the manufacturers didn't know yet what KITT's final design is. Remember the KR pilot? Some of the scenes there showed a stock Firebird and a silly looking nose and scanner because the official fiberglass KITT fascia wasn't ready yet. The toy companies just went for the stock Trans Am design and slapped on a fake scanner in order to cash in on the craze. By 1983, toy companies had the correct design and by then, KITT toys were more accurate...like the talking Kenner KITT and MPC model kit, both of which debuted in 1983.

I agree. From a business standpoint, they had to strike while the iron was hot if they wanted to start cashing in, even if it meant their toys would ultimately be inaccurate. People would have bought them already and it wouldn't have mattered because they'd have their profits.

The second one is from ERTL, aka: the company that made the new die-cast KITT. I' m sure happy that we didn't get a new model that looked like that after monthes of delays. :P

I live on the North end of Houston near Northlline Mall. What part of Houston do you live in? Maybe we could hang out sometime!

Once I get everything set up for internet at my house, I'll check out Ebay. Got a new digital camera over the weekend, so I'll try to get pics of my KITT. Better yet, I better not do that. My KITT has some holes drilled into the plastic (a semi-failed project to light up the Kenner KITT). If I show those pics, people will not be happy.
