Do you think?

Post by Knight-Rider » Sat Feb 16, 2008 2:22 pm

Hey do you think if the new Knight Rider movie is successful they might reissue better and new box sets of the original series?

I would guess no.

The days of the DVD format are numbered. (It still has a few years left.) But with Blu-ray all-but-having won the format war, and with digital downloads being more and more popular, I don't see a good business reason to redo the boxsets. Will Knight Rider make it to Blu-ray? That would be an expensive re-release for Universal so my guess is no. Older shows which aren't shot in HD or the wide-screen format don't take full advantage of Blu-ray to begin with.

This isn't a reflection on the popularity of the old series, just the reality of the business model.

If it's a huge hit I could see them taking advantage of the popularity by reissuing the original DVD sets maybe with different packaging but nothing new on the discs. But nothing they'd put real time and money into, it'd be relatively cheap for them to do, if there's enough profit to be had, they'll do it. Are they still producing copies of the sets now or did they discontinue them?
The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great! :skar:

I'd really like to see this happen, even if only for the UK market.

They really screwed up our Knight Rider releases, having the pilot episode randomly on Disc 7 of Season 1. With no explanation as to why they did this! And then also having Knight Rider 2000 as a Bonus on the first Season (but then perhaps we should just be grateful we got it at all.)

Since some TV shows such as Friends seem to get re-released all the time in different boxset designs and there's been at least 3 different "complete friends" boxsets I beleive, I'm sure it could be just as viable to do the same for Knight Rider should a new Series be produced and that then also released on DVD. I wouldn't even mind if they kept the content the same, just as long as they put the original series in proper order of broadcast, (Pilot at the start) and then had some slightly more adventurous, but still matching packaging! (Season 4 to display an image of SPM Kitt etc).

I would like to see shows released (legally) as platform independent files. Maybe a new kind of MPEG or something. I would want it to be made in such a way that you wouldn't have to use Windows or Windows Media Player to play it. Although I happen to be typing this in Windows 2000, I mainly run FreeBSD and Linux. :)

I hope they'd re-release at least the 3rd season DVD with fixed sound effects for region2.
Couldn't the original series be released utilizing Blu-Ray capasity with DVD quality so there would less discs for the whole series, maybe including Team Knight Rider as a bonus :)

Oh, and I hope the new Pilot will be available on DVD / Blu-Ray quickly, even if the show becomes a series because if overseas countries will have to wait till it's shown here on TV or the whole 1st season to be released on dvd / Blu-Ray, it takes probably at least a year and the waiting time would be unbearable :/
