Calling All Knight Rider Merchandise Collectors! Help Needed

Post by Joe Huth » Sat Sep 09, 2006 4:17 pm

After I finish work on the K.A.R.R. Owner's Manual, I have decided to publish one more Knight Rider related book before I call it quits...A Knight Rider Merchandise Guide. Over the years, I have been collecting information and pictures of various pieces of Knight Rider merchandise....I looked the other day to find 998 pictures (with very few duplicates!). I'm looking to obtain the following information about each piece of merchandise:

1. Product Name
2. Manufacturer
3. Year of Manufacture
4. Country Released In
5. Variations (if any)

I'd like for people to add to this thread with any or all of the information requested. I'd like for this booklet to be as complete as possible.

I'll also post some merchandise pics with hopes someone out there can fill in the missing info. Here's the first one:

Image

1. Knight 2000 Stunt Set
2. ???
3. ???
4. ??? US or England?
5. Variations: Alternate box says "Knight 2000 SUPER Stunt Set"

You're not going to publish anymore KR books after that? Tis a shame.

Anyway, do PM me when KARR's owner's manual is ready (the Season 3 version if you make it or the KARR version you have if you're making only one).

As for KR merchandise, I can give you a list of two model kits I have:

Knight 2000 Knight Rider 1:25 scale model kit

Manufacturer: AMT/Ertl

Year of Manufacture: 2004

Country Released In: RC2 Brands, Inc. Dyersville, Iowa 52040-500 USA

Variations: There were previous releases and I do not know what the differences are. You need to contact "Dave Knight" here in the forums as he's got a LOT of information on the Knight Rider model kits and can tell you everything about nearly (if not all) the issues that were out there.

The kit I have, the number on the box is #31538-1HD

Knight Rider 2000 1/25 Model Kit

(NOTE: This is the model of KIFT)

Manufacturer: AMT/ERTL
Year of Manufacture: 1991 (yes, it says that on the box!)

Country Released In: The ERTL Company Inc. Dyersville, Iowa 52040 USA

Variations: The model kit I am referring to here is #8084-10EO. This shows KIFT on a grey background. Note that there was a later release which KIFT was on a blue background and one of the most notable errors were that the rims/hubcaps were the wrong kind. This is the original release which I have.

Again, Dave Knight would know more about these models. :)

Both model kits require more than beginner skill to do correctly and glue.

Yep, I'd like to include all novels and annuals as well.

FuzzieDice - I love writing Knight Rider related books, but I'm running out of topics!!! :)

3. Year of Manufacture: 1980's

Here's general view of almost all of my Knight Rider stuff:
Image
Note the cardboard KITT, cutted it in the 80's from some cornflakes box, don't remember anymore what the exact brand was or any other details.
Also my "KR, the Best Of" and the 1st season DVD boxes have Finnish coverart and are the region2 Scandinavian version with Finnish, Swedish, etc. subtitles. The season2 DVD box have the original English coverart but includes the Scandinavian countries subtitles.
The small KITT is just a Majorette Trans-Am with red sticker as a scanner added by me :)

Joe - Hey, maybe we can get together and brainstorm new topics for you. :)

You want novels too? I forgot 3 of them I personally have. I know there's 5 but I don't know the other two names and I think they are near impossible to find. I got mine via Amazon.com used books.

They are:

Knight Rider
by Glen A. Larson & Roger Hill
First printing: 1983 (Printed in the United States of America)
Pinnacle Books, Inc
1430 Broadway
New York, NY 10018
ISBN: 0-523-42170-2 USA
ISBN: 0-523-43160-0 Canada

Book is black cover with "Knight Rider" and picture on front.

Knight Rider #2: Trust Doesn't Rust
by Glen A. Larson & Roger Hill
First Printing, January 1984
Pinnacle books (same address)

ISBN: 0-523-42181-8 USA
ISBN: 0-523-43169-4 Canada

Book is red cover with "Knight Rider" and picture on front.

Knight Rider #3: Hearts of Stone
by Glen A. Larson and Roger Hill
First Printing: April 1984
Pinnacle books (same address)
ISBN: 0-523-42182-6 USA
ISBN: 0-523-43170-8 Canada

Book is blue cover with "Knight Rider" and picture on front.

Note that the books are printed in the USA and the copyright is by "MCA Publishing, a Division of MCA Inc."

I know there's two other novels that came out, one being called "Mirror Image" and another one I don't know the name of.

I almost forgot the K.I.T.T. Kit! Don't forget that! :) There's I think a scan of it at KnightRiderArchive.com but if you can't find it, I have it in PDF format.

And there also was a commercial for a KITT slot car type thing called the "Rough Riders Knight Rider Impossibles" set that does all kinds of stunts, etc. It's by "LJN"

#4 was called "The 24-Karat Assassin," and was based off of "Mouth of the Snake." "Mirror Image" was #5, and was based on "Goliath."

Thanks, JL. :) I gotta try to find those books.

Joe - I haven't seen that one before. Looks like it says "Knight 2000" on the sides. Is the scanner working or is it painted on? Does it talk?

Looks like it's the whipshifter KITT. I don't know more details about it but there's good source for information about Knight Rider models at KRUK modelling forum.

I agree. Judging by the "Knight 2000" lettering, the car is definitely made by Kenner and is related to the same group of toys as the Voice Car. It also has the indent on the roof where the accessory goes.

The same picture showed up twice. The first one changed to the second one (on the KITT cars) :)

That car is part of the stunt and super stunt set pictured by Joe in the intial post. I sold off the stunt set and kept the super stunt set. Only difference is the super stunt set came with a ramp and ski-mode section where as the standard one just had the barnyard.
