The Diamond Select Knight Rider Michael Knight 8-Inch Action Figure has been cancelled. My guess is because it looks NOTHING like Hasselhoff and they were getting complaints from fans.

The height is completely off. His head looks more like Luke Duke from dukes of hazard or the starsky and hutch guy.

He looks more like that guy from an se3 episode I believe, who drove a light blue sedan with a fork on it in order to kill Michael.
No, this is one I'm glad to see cancelled.

You know, I think it looks more like Jim Rockford than Michael Knight.

It's official, Robert Barone stars as Diamond Select's Michael Knight; a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless and the powerless, in a world of overbearing parents who adore their other son more.

here's the reason diamond gave me on twitter why the 8" michael was cancelled. sometimes the best way to find out an answer is simply ask rather than speculate.

I'm genuinely sorry it was cancelled, because I think everyone here would have been impressed by the final product. Our prototype heads rarely resemble the final heads, since we have to take into account the materials that will be used (shrinkage, base color, etc.), but it looks like in this case people just didn't like what they saw. Although I didn't see any complaints on our Facebook page or in the Ask DST inbox.
The low sales could have been equally due to the scale, since the retro 8" format is not one that is embraced by all fandoms or all retailers, and we also had no KITT planned at that scale. Still, we thought it would have been a cool KR collectible, and I personally regret not doing more to promote the solicitation. Its cancellation isn't something to celebrate, really.
Mark, any time you need to ask me anything, let me know, NN has my number.

I've worked retail for 23 years and if there is anything I know for sure, it's "Presentation", that doll was the worst in a long time since the Korgy K.I.T.T. came out, if it does not appeal to any ones taste, it's gonna bomb out!
Plus nobody is ever gonna buy a doll either, if it was a updated version of the Kenner's Michael Knight action figure, that would have sold, but most fans I come across are more a fan of the car than the show, or are sticklers for wanting accuracy in the analiest of manners!...the car is not bad but the rims look like crap and the dash is too rounded, and the exterior panels at the nose are too generic for my taste.

You're right, KR fans are often sticklers for detail. They may even have Star Trek fans beat out for that. I won't get into the whole discussion of compromising accuracy to make an affordable series of toys, but I will say that if you haven't played with the electronic KITT (or the Minimates KITT, SPM KITT and KARR, for that matter) for accuracy reasons, you're missing out, because they're a lot of fun.
And we could definitely work on our presentation. That prototype was still in development, and was going to be further refined, but we wanted to get it out there to gather orders (we pre-solicit 6-12 months in advance) and gauge interest. I think we learned a lesson, but it's still a shame.
But it was definitely an action figure, not a doll. Under that outfit was one of the most highly poseable 8" bodies ever made. (Again, presentation.)
