ok, here's some digital dashboard products I thought you guys might be interested in. I would like to see some of these used on the new Knight Rider instead of an unmodified dash with CGI effects. maybe this should be in the off topic section...if a moderator wants to move it be my guest
The first one you should see is PLX Devices. they make instruments of standard size that are basically OLED displays. That's an LED that doesn't need a backlight. You can completely customize what is shown and the style. See
PLX Devices Home.
Here are other digital gage stuff...
Evodash:
Evodash home
Cobalt (from autometer.com)
cobalt air/fuel mixture
speedometer/tach
Intellidash
intellidash
ScanGauge II
ScanGage II
VEI Systems
VEI Systems
1956 Mercury dashboard replaced with digital instruments
Same with 57 chevy
AIM Sports

Yeah, I don't understand why they need to do the gauges and everything behind the steering wheel with CG in post production, seems like getting something similar that can show up well on screen would be better and probably cheaper, even after they get it down and can reuse it, it just seems kind of absurd. Maybe it's a Ford thing...
The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great!

Yeah totally! the other thing is, physically modifying the dashboard creates a market for "after market" add ons that people can install in their mustang to make it look like Knight Rider! btw don't you think that nighttime Evodash shot looks very much like the original knight rider?

Yeah I would think it would be easier on the actors too, they don't have to pretend they are seeing certain things on the dash when they are actually physically there!

Check out this walk though of a Honda that's equipped with like 8 of those PLX Devices OLED digital gauges! they have a remote that lets you cycle through different displays on them too
YouTube video from PLX
Looks like Knight Rider eh???

Yea, those digital displays in the older cars look cool.. and I have an OLED radio in my car..
Those things don't show up as well when filmed. Plus you also have hafta synch the digital readout with live filming, which I would imagine, be a pain in the butt. The best solution is to throw it all to digital production and let them have fun with their future.
In the 80s, LEDs were the future. We're 26 years advanced and saw the LED future in the 90s, now it's time for full color LCD displays, touch screens and heads up displays.
Darth Vader's bathroom has passed and tv is attempting to take steps to reality and less cheese. Please for the love of the show let it contain less cheese.
