I actually had the opposite happen to me! Now, I don't have a true replica -- I have a 2002 Ford Escort ZX2 with many Knight Rider style cues inside and out (wrap around dash, overhead consoles, nav screen, center console with a functioning 5.25" floppy drive, front mounted scanner, etc.). But one night, a cop pulled me over for doing 50 in a 40. But then he saw my car and the interior and started asking questions about it. I gave him "the tour" of the main functions of all the buttons. After that, he decided not to give me a ticket!

Check out the car at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/390119 if you haven't already seen it.

Of course, certain things on a replica could get you a ticket, like using the scanner in the front of the car while driving.
I try to put a little KITT in any car I own!

It baffles me how people can drive around with severe alignment problems, no brakelights, and crap flying out of the bed of their trucks, and yet someone gets a ticket for having a row of red lights on the front of the car.

EDIT: "breaklights" are some bizarre takeoff on "brakelights". Fun.

That's exactly the same over here ... It's nice to know that strange enforcement logic is not limited just to Australia ...

Nice to know it's not just the USA! Ha!
Seriously, I don't know how some of these people get their cars to move.
The alignment problem was a Taurus or something where the left rear wheel was tilted about 20 degrees from a collision. I gave him a wide berth in case it came flying off.

Anyway, back on topic. I still don't understand how the scanner is illegal. Are they afraid someone's going to shoot cosmic death rays with it?

It's just that, in someone's rear view mirror, a scanner can look like an emergency vehicle. That's one reason it's illegal. And another might be because it could be distracting to other drivers.

The only "distraction" factor I could see is a KR fan running off the road because they were busy looking at the replica. :)

Oh for sure! :) Dryden doesn't like it when I look at other cars as I get distracted. He'd blow a spark plug out his back window if we saw a KITT on the road, I think!

WELL, FLASH BACK TO FALL,1995...

I had a 83 Camaro Berlinetta -no spoiler on back,no t-tops but a rebuilt engine,trans,brakes,etc...charcoal grey int/exterior...so I got a scanner light ,installed in the nose-lower part...very bright halogen headlights.

riding thru rural NH. a (female )cop tagged me at 70...(oopsie!) but as it turns out, she was a fan of KR.......You can guess the rest...NO TICKET THO!

sadly,Spring of 96...while in Conn,an idiot who had not gotten new tires lost control of his p-up truck & plowed nose to nose into my ride....
crushing it all the way to the block....I had just stopped at a coffe shop to get a coffee not 1 minute prior...."KARR" scanner light, voice module & all were wrecked....

I did salvage the control, sound byte-voice box tho & it now resides in my current ride...( ironic = a tahoe Sport,3 door )...& no tickets !
