I'll have to agree with the idea that the scanner should be disguised after morphing, otherwise it defeats the purpose of being in a disguise mode. Even as a child I thought it was tough for classic K.I.T.T. to camouflage at night because of his scanner, despite being colored black for scenarios where he had to be in a sort of stealth mode.
“Gimme maximum turbo thrust and blast me outta here, will ya!?”
