I have seen the General Lee many times in pure silver chrome, now check out Kitt with the limited edition series. And why does Karr have a "RED" scanner instead of "Yellow". All the ones I see for sale are all in red, it's kitt with a differnt color, that's stupid, why even come out with karr if yuor not going to make it right!

What the hell? If they're going to tamper with the model at all, I'd rather they make it more accurate instead of painting it chrome. Can't say I care for it much, though. It also looks silly having the whole car chrome and the side fender vents black...

Anyway, nice find, MIKEMAC.

The seller of the First car was the guy I bought my KITT from. The Seller is a jerkoff when it comes to shipping.

It sounds to me that this is simply the regular ERTL car which somebody bought, painted it chrome, and stuck it back in the box. If it was an officially-released product, I would think the box would say something like "limited chrome edition!". Unless I'm just missing it.

None of the chromed edition cars (General Lee, Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino, Blues Brothers Dodge, Speed Racer Mach 5) had anything different on the box that I've noticed.

Still, I agree in the belief that it is a customization. Especially considering that none of us heard of this earlier and we're not seeing more of these around... especially on eBay.

guys these are legit cars from ertl. if you do a search on ebay, you will see there are a bunch listed from various sellers. the reason why these cars are chrome is because these are "chase cars" . they are produced in very low numbers. ertl does this with every or almost every car they release. the box will not be any different that the normal version, only the car.

the good thing is that you have a chance of finding one of these cars at your local retailer that sells the ertl 1:18 cars. yes, even on the shelf at wal mart and it won't cost you a penny more than the regular version. you are going to pay an arm and a leg anywhere else, especially ebay. the reason you see so many on there is because all of the sellers that have them listed know that they are rare and that they always bring in top dollar. i've seen chrome versions of the general lee go for nearly $500 when they first hit ebay. i was surprised to see "buy it now" prices so low for this version of kitt.

I don't mind the chrome for something different, but for them to paint the fender vents when they should be body colour goes to show they've done no research.

I don't see myself as a collector for collecting's sake (i.e. not about to spend a ton of money on eBay) but I'll take a look at a hobby shop that has had other Ertl collectables to at least get a look. Thanks for the info - I didn't know these existed.

The Gran Torino looks so much nicer than K.I.T.T. in chrome, I have to say. I even like it better than its original red & white colors.

I heard about that...apparently sellers who spell the names of their items wrong don't get many or any bids.

Thats because people can't find their items unless they use "view sellers other items"
