after all thats been descussed on this thread about the switch pods(which i feel a bit guilty of as i used andys stunning replica to make the point)i have in my humble opinion come to this decision
mike scheffe made the original dash below is a shot of the hero car from the pilot
Image
Image
clearly the pod on the right is the same height no question
somewhere after a power of be must have realised the right pod was obscuring the readout and so lowered the height thus
Image
later in season2 when a new dash was constructed this idea was carried on thus
Image
and
Image
and even the season2 stage car was the same
Image
then when kitts dash was altered in season3 as there were no leds behind the pod it was returned to the same height as shown here
Image
as most of the replica producers rely onthe original scheffe spec for the pods it makes sence that most replica owners havent noticed this alteration particularly if they are making a season 2 replica( my opinion and im sorry if i have offended anyone

One thing regarding the Seasons 3/4 dashboard: The above shot is actually of the Season 4 mock-up dashboard and has K.I.T.T.'s voice modulator slightly crooked to the right with the word "Normal" instead of "Normal Cruise." In fact, the entire reason for that small change (along with the "C" button) was the use of the mock-up dashboard for every single episode of Season 4 for close-up shots of the modulator. That shot is one of the few wide shots of the mock-up dashboard in Season 4.

I'd say the Hero Car from Season 4 is the same one as for Season 3 and still retained the words "Normal Cruise" in wide shots of the interior. That, and the voice modulator in the Hero Car was never slightly crooked. To rectify this issue in Season 4, you can tell in some episodes that the crew tilted the camera angle to not make the modulator look crooked for the mock-up shots. Maybe they made the change to only use the mock-up for close-ups in Season 4 to keep continuity, or the electronics in the Hero Car may not have been as bright with other outside lights getting in the way.

quite right with your comment on the above shot lost knight (this was taken from "killer kitt")this is the season4 stage dash i used it for the point on the pod heights your also right on the season3 hero car not having the "normal cruise" altered to "normal" for season4 (i think there's a good example in"knights in the fast lane" when kitts in cougars garage at the end and there is a zoom in shot to the dash ) im not at my pc with the dvd player but will check.

You're probably thinking of the episode Knight Racer, where Michael leans over KITT's hood to talk to him, and we see the full dashboard from the driver's side window. :good:

Matt
Welcome aboard the Knight 2000.

Thank you. What's all this, it looks like Darth Vader's bathroom?

Actually, in "Killer K.I.T.T." towards the end of the episode when Michael and R.C. are chasing Berio, the camera pans across the Hero Car's dash and you can see it still says "Normal Cruise." Also, there's a good shot in "Hills Of Fire" when the bum is trying to ask K.I.T.T. for a PIN number.
