NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
Guys, it's just parts. We have no way of knowing if these are spare parts for the original, or stuff left over from upgrades. Or even from an earlier version of KITT that didn't ship. After all, the parts had to come from some place...
My feeling is, like someone said earlier, if (or, more likely, when) they want to bring the original KITT back, you're looking at sweeps week or a season finale. The two KITTs would be a big deal, but only after the new KITT has had a chance to establish itself as a character in its own right.
I can even visualize the promo: darkness, then the new KITT's double scanner lights up. Camera pulls back (still in darkness) and a second, familiar single scanner lights up to the right of the first. You wouldn't even need a VO.

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
They'll probably will explain how KITT got destroyed or dismantled. I hope they do something good with KITT, it is so Crazy how they show the original KITT and the darkness of the show. Can't f-in Wait!James_kr wrote:That KNIGHT TWO THOUSAND lettering doesn't look right to me, its the wrong font I believe. Also I prefer the knight symbol when its not a horn button.
I am glad they are using the 2TV dash because I like it better than the 3/4 but I do believe it should have continued on using the 3/4 dash.
I don't understand why KITT is dismantled. Even if there is a new KITT its still going to be the "fastest, safest, strongest" car in the world and I don't know why Michael Knight would let him be dismantled. Doesn't make sense to me.

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
Everyone keeps asking how K.I.T.T. is dismantled. How do we know for certain that the telepic will be ignoring Knight Rider 2000 completely? Just because the Knight 4000 is not going to be included? A simple number is not enough of a reason in & of itself to disregard an entire continuity. I still have a feeling KR2K is not going to be completely ignored, unless I missed something in an article somewhere? As far as I can tell, all anyone has to go by so far is the information that the director decided not to include the Knight 4000 at the last minute.

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
I'm so happy to see such positive reactions on here. I've been looking forward to this all along and I'm dead chuffed everyone else seems to be too.
As for the scanner, guys it's a scanner! Only meant to be going when KITT is scanning something anyway, just like in the first couple of years of the original, especially season one. I much preferred it that way. In the later seasons, when it was going constantly, we missed the lovely way it lit up, and KITT stood out too much, he was much more stealthy and blended in more when it only came on now and then. Besides, it keeps it special
Just to echo the concerns of my fellow British fans, any word out there who has snapped it up over here, if anyone? I hope it's not some crap station that'll show it in the afternoon or early evening and end up "trimming" it like they do so many times over here :S

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
It would seem to me that the personality of the Knight 3000 is a little more aggressive than that of the Knight 2000, and given what we know so far, that works since the AI has been housed inside a Mustang. I also get the distinct feeling that whilst the original KITT used his agility to tackle certain obstacles, that the new KITT will use his brute force.
By comparing the different types of car that each of the KITT’s are housed in, I think it’s going to be quiet easy to get a feel for the new KITT’s personality, and separate it from the originals, which is something that I think we will all need to be able to do at the end of the day, given how many people are already against the Mustang due to their mistaken belief that the new KITT is the same AI as the old KITT.
Also, as odd as this may sound, I wouldn’t be surprised if the original KITT isn’t actually in pieces. Imagine for a moment that Michael took KITT with him, which is what we all figured would happen when he left since KITT was designed to specifically compliment him, it’s entirely possible that prior to the Knight 3000’s creation, that the original Knight 2000, that’s right, KARR, was rebuilt using as much of the original specifications as possible. Seeing him would be enough to connect the new pilot to the original without giving KITT’s true status away, and the damage could be indicative of KARR having to be forcibly stopped from wreaking havoc.

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
Just watched that promo and I have to agree with the others, it looks AWESOME.
I still feel that the front end of the current model year mustangs are too boxy (see my thread where I showed a 2001 Mustang), but this is, after all, the Knight Rider of a new generation. And every time I watch the car on video, I feel less strongly about it being boxy.
I also think it's a little silly to have Tracer be MK's son, because it encourages this silliness about who MK slept with or whatever. But that's a minor point.
As far as the license plate, like I said they might want to use a random plate to hide the fact that it is an advanced vehicle or from Knight Industries.

Never as the focal point of the scene, but yeah you could see it now and then. Sometimes in the semi, I think you get a pretty clear shot of it in Ring of Fire too.infiniti_mike wrote:Sidebar: Wats KITT's Engine ever shown in the original series?

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
I'm thinking, since the new KR is primarily a direct continuation of the original series
(like KR2K had intended to be, but didn't quite work out) and since there's an 8 year
gap, between this new pilot and the setting of KR2K, in theory, I reckon that KR2K
could still be classed as canon, and part of the official continuity.
We never saw what happened after MK left Maddock and Shawn (and KITT) behind at
the end of KR2K. But during that movie, Devon promised to let Michael have what
was left of the old KITT. Mainly (IIRC) KITT's original Trans-Am shell.
So, to honour Devon's promise, at some point Maddock would've shipped to Michael,
the remains of KITT's original Trans-Am shell, and the rest of what was in the crates
left over after MK had installed KITT's AI and CPU into the Knight 4000 car. Plus, any
other surplus KITT components and spares, that may have been left over from the
old Knight Industries and FLAG facilities in use, when the original KITT was on the
road back in the 1980's. Maddock made it quite clear during KR2K, that what was
left of the original KITT, was very much surplus to his requirements!
What we saw in that new NBC preview, of what appeared to be the original KITT,
may have been an aborted attempt to rebuild the original. Either by Michael, so
he could have his old buddy alongside the 1957 Chevy, or by FLAG, to use in
case they were unable to build a new supercar to ultimate replace KITT.
As for the Knight 4000 ... that too could also be at least mentioned. if not in this
new pilot, then maybe sometime in the future, if a new series is commissioned.
It doesn't have to be physically featured, except maybe in very brief flashbacks.
It could simply be explained that the Knight 4000 project simply failed at some
point. Maybe Shawn resigned from the Foundation at some point similar to MK,
or maybe Maddock could've been involved in something illegal, that ultimately
put the Knight 4000 project in serious jeopardy.
Meanwhile ... how to explain that discrepancy over the Knight 2000/4000/3000.
The original KITT was the Knight Industries 2000, built by Knight Industries, to
be used by FLAG. By 2000, it seemed as though Knight Industries and FLAG
had been ditched, so in KR2K, the entire organisation was simply known
as the Knight Foundation. Hence why I would think the Knight 4000 was
never officially referred to as the Knight Industries 4000, or KIFT.
Forward a few years later, maybe say 2005-2006, soon after the departures of
both Maddock and Shawn, the Knight Foundation directors decide to go back
to the drawing board, and re-establish the two sister organisations that had
been established by Wilton Knight in the 80's ... Knight Industries and FLAG.
To that end, they also decided that a new supercar and field operative were
needed to take on the same roles as the original partnership of KITT and MK.
Now that Knight Industries had been re-established, and the Knight 4000
had been cancelled, the new supercar would effectively be created as
a direct descendant of the original Knight Industries 2000.
So, they decided the new car would be called the Knight Industries 3000, and
be addressed with the same abbreviated name as the original car ... KITT.
To echo the comments of some other posters in this thread, I'm sure that should
bosses at NBC decide to commission a new KR series, we'll definitely see the
return of the original KITT, either in a cameo appearance partway through
the series, or as a fairly major part of the season finale.

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
Considering how poorly the reaction to Knight Rider 2000 was to well almost everyone, including many involved with making it, I really doubt there will be any mention of it whatsoever in this new iteration. There was just too much wrong with it to even be considered canon to the new TV Movie/Backdoor Pilot.
The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great!

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
I think that's a great explanation and probably the most logical set of circumstances if Knight Rider 2000 is to be considered part of the continuity. Unfortunately I don't think the writers would ever explore the mythology in that much detail, as they most likely will want to focus the story on Mike, Sarah, Charles and K.I.T.T. I suspect we'll get some loose mentions that will be just enough to refer to Devon and classic K.I.T.T., etc.DJGM wrote:I'm thinking, since the new KR is primarily a direct continuation of the original series

And while I think it's both impossible and inadvisable, wouldn't it be something if they managed to pull TKR and KR2000 into the continuity effectively.
Obviously can't happen and I wouldn't really want it to, but hey, it sure would shock all of us, wouldn't it?

djgm, this last part puzzles me, it's been a long time since I saw Knight Rider 2000, but at the end of that movie, the original KITT does not exist anymore, correct? the CPU etc were put in KIFT. So, why would we see the original Trans Am KITT in this new series? If anything we would see KIFT.DJGM wrote:

The new pilot disregrds KR2000.... much like SUPERMAN RETURNS did with SM3 & 4. I guess one could even say that the new pilot is disregarding seasons 3 and 4, seeing as how the 2 screened KITT dash is referenced... I never liked s3 and 4, anyway.seeker78 wrote:djgm, this last part puzzles me, it's been a long time since I saw Knight Rider 2000, but at the end of that movie, the original KITT does not exist anymore, correct? the CPU etc were put in KIFT. In KR2K, the original KITT still exists. At first, we see he's been totally dismantled on theseeker78 wrote:djgm, this last part puzzles me, it's been a long time since I saw Knight Rider 2000,DJGM wrote:

orders of Maddock, completely unbeknown to Devon, and much to Devon's annoyance.
The first we see of the original KITT in KR2K was his dashboard dumped in a crate.
The next we see of KITT in KR2K, is a sorry collection of some of his original components,
spread out on a table. Michael was trying to re-solder some of the parts back together.
After a brief exchange between Michael and Devon, KITT suddenly sparks back to life!
Those remains of KITT, plus a few new parts, are later installed in MK's 1957 Chevy.
Further on in the film, after Devon's murder, Michael transplants KITT's CPU and his
scanner into the Knight 4000. By this time, all the other bits of KITT had become
waterlogged after an unscheduled dip into the depths of Seattle's docks!

Thanks for a reminder of ANOTHER thing that always bugged me about KR2000.... WTF is with the steering wheel!?
Seriously, there's too much of a mess with keeping KR2000 and it isn't even worth it.
Don't get me started on Superman Returns.......
The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great!

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
My favourite part of that preview:
"It's not a thing, it's a car, and you may call it Kitt."
I'll try to be as be as objective as I can until I've seen it, but it looks great -- atmosphere, wild driving, humour... I can't wait!

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
Interesting: The 'dismantled KITT 2000' (if that's what it is) is showing a motor that is 1985 or newer. It has the TPI (Tuned Port Injection) that was used on Trans Ams starting with the 1985 model year. (assuming it was at the same time they started using TPI in Camaros) It's been a long time since I've seen seasons 3 and 4 of KR. Now I'm curious if you see that TPI motor in seasons 3 or 4.
One man did make a difference.

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
Knight Rider 2000 realy needs ignoring.
It was a relative failure in all manners, When you ask someone about Knight Rider who fondly remember it but not a massive fan, they think of The 82-86 series and probaly don't even know about Knight Rider 2000.
If this is done right and from the preview it look's promising, then Knight Rider could be a huge hit agian.
From my understanding Micheal has left the foundation, and we know he makes a cameo, so I hope they do a good job of exspaning what happened.
That annoyed me slightly with the orignal, I could list many exaomples, but the one that comes to mind first is Bonnie's disaprence in Goliath, and no indrouction to April.
The humour looks still there, I also feel like a kid agian.

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
I'm loving the clip it has got me really looking forward to the show for the first time. However I'm a little put out by seeing old KITT in that way. That’s like crapping on the old show and the car that to be honest made it what it is. I don't know if they are going to be using old KITTs ai in the new car but with a difference voice I don't think it would work. I was never happy about a change of car but am turning to the idea but the idea that old KITT is dead completely is something I'll never be happy about. They could have just said as he is a bit out of date Michael kept him. I could still be surprised and as no one really knows what the plans are this could all mean nothing in a month I just hope old KITT is still alive somewhere even if not still in the original shell.
Oh any uk members wanting a copy can you download them? I live in the uk and will be downloading the show over the net as it’s the only way I'll get to see it for now. If it’s a big hit it will get shown in the uk

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
I was given about 18 hours to get the stuff together to ship. And for part of that 18 hours I slept.
George Barris called me at 4:30 P.M. my time on November 19 and gave a heads up as to what was going to happen. He then called back at 6 P.M. my time to say that they wanted a nose, hood, dash (with flashing lights if I had those) the dash overlays, a wheel, a spoiler, blackout, and rear bumper. And he needed them sent in the morning. I don't work that fast. So rather than send the loose dash components and risk them installing them in the wrong places, I worked late (late for me) and put together a primered two TV dash I had with a molded pod. George said he would paint anything that needed painting. I took the nose off my own car and although they didn't ask for a scanner, I screwed one to the nose and sent it, with controller. I sent my own wheel (the one in the picture), I had a hood without air intake, but we installed a paint stripped one, outside my shop laying against the building so I sent it complete with mouse nest. Well, I removed most of that. I sent the blackout from my own car, which was returned in pieces, a back bumper complete with KNIGHT plate which they hadn't requested but I thought would look cool. And I sent one spoiler.
I'd asked George if they wanted a single TV dash and he said it didn't matter. That's good because I didn't have one but since most of what I make is the pilot dash, I used that. So much for show continuety but it's something and it kind of pays homage to the original pilot.
George said that originally the set director was going to use his car but at the last minute decided to use my parts. He said that they were going to transform into the body of the new car. We'll see. As of right now I don't know how they used them.
Am I excited? YES.

Re: NBC Knight Rider TWO MINUTE preview
well, to be fair to the new series, even the classic knight rider series didn't get KITT's interior right every time.
for example in KITT vs. KARR, in the very last scene when Michael drives John to his new marine shop, KITT has a two TV season 2 dash...
and i bet there are a lot more of these 'errors' if you just look closely.
so a season 2 dash in new knight rider is okay, especially considering the time you had to ship the parts!
