E! to Tell 'Tales From the Hoff'

E! is getting ready to spin some "Tales From the Hoff," a Ryan Seacrest-produced scripted comedy starring David Hasselhoff.

The project -- part of E!'s previously announced move toward adding scripted programming into its mix -- will follow the fictional dark and twisted trials and tribulations of an international icon as he navigates Hollywood and the world of dating after divorce.

The series also will explore the fictional icon's attempts to reinvigorate a career steeped in the past.

Hasselhoff will play the title role in the project, which insiders said will have a "Curb Your Enthusiasm" feel.

Dan O'Keefe ("The Drew Carey Show") is onboard to write the pilot script and serve as executive producer. Seacrest also will executive produce, along with Hasselhoff. Chuck Russell will direct and exec produce, while Seacrest producing partner Eliot Goldberg will co-exec produce.

While "Tales From the Hoff" will center on a fictional character, the similarities between that character and Hasselhoff are obvious, including Hasselhoff's marital status (he divorced last year). The project stemmed from conversations Hasselhoff had with friends about how his life might inspire an interesting TV show.

Hasselhoff has remained a pop-culture fixture since "Knight Rider." He hosts NBC's "America's Got Talent," which has already been renewed for another season.

Seacrest, meanwhile, is prepping for the Oct. 14 premiere of his latest E! series, the unscripted "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" (a co-production with Bunim/Murray).

He also hosts "E! News" for the cabler and has put the broadcast on track to score its most-watched year.

Compared with 2006, the nightly series is up 22 percent in adults 18-49, according to Nielsen.
